Bees, Beetles, Butterflies and Other Beguiling Bugs-FREE PDF book download

Due to overwhelming public demand, I have decided to leave this book online as a free PDF download through the month of August. There have been well over 1,500 downloads so far. So if you're planning a summer library program to fit the CSLP 2008 theme: Catch the Reading Bug! - be sure to download this 166-page book, 125 stories with contributions from 32 professional storytellers around the world. Remember that the download takes a while due to the length of the book and the number of full color photographs included, so be patient.

Hi there!
Good morning!
I downloaded earlier when you sent the first time and have been soooo grateful! This book is wonderful and you are very generous to share with all of us who are working in libraries and in summer programs of all types this year. Thank you for your generous spirit and for keeping all of us busy "bugging" this summer!

Kind regards!
Tricia

Thank you so much for this book! I have some programs scheduled and have been lamenting my lack of interesting bug stories! I am looking forward to exploring the book.

Thanks, Margaret. I hope the stories in the book will be useful in your programs. Nearly 1,600 people have downloaded it so far, so there's something "buggy" going on, and that's for sure!!

I gave my first buggy programs yesterday and they were great fun. My favorites were The Three Butterfly Brothers and The Queen of the Bees. I made the mistake of throwing the butterfly balls before I was through telling stories and the little butterflies in little hands were so interesting for them to play with that the littlest ones forgot to listen!

I sometimes don't like themed programs but your book gave me a chance to pick my favorite themes while still giving a buggy program. Thank you again for gathering these stories. I am impressed how you have included stories for all ages--so important with the varied library audiences.

Hi, Margaret...
Congratulations! This is my first report on how a program actually went using some of these stories. Sounds great. Yep, little hands can get pretty busy when little ears should be listening!

What a wonderful resource, Jackie! I am doing a handful of performances for Colorado libraries this summer with the catch the reading bug theme, "Lions & Spiders & Geckos--Oh, My!" (a song, stories, and interactive "bugstra" [bug orchestra/rhythms band]). I have just downloaded this resource and will look to it for added ideas in the future.

Thank you!!

Thanks so much, Helen. I'm glad that you'll be able to use this book this summer and maybe into the future. Over 1,700 people have now downloaded it... so these bugs are really scuttling around!

Jackie, thank-you so much for the gift of the bugbook! You are the most generous person I know, and the one that knows the most about story. I have no works for what you offer us, graciousness plus. You are my mentor! Again thank-you, will use in my garden storytells.

Hi, Bobbie...
So good to hear from you! I'm glad you'll be able to use the book. Looks like it will get a lot of use across the country this summer. Which was the whole goal!

Thanks so much, Jackie for doing this. I did have a library show and it went great. I am an artist so I drew a lady bug - one side with 6 dots and the other side with 5 dots and told the story about lady bug counting her spots and making crow angry. They loved it. I am also a volunteer teacher/docent at the Rio Grande Zoo so they now have a wonderful bug book as well. This is such fine work and so generous of you to do it/share it. Keep up the great work.
