Share a Story - Change the World

I have a box of magazines which date between 85 to 110 years old. Great material. How old does a story need to be to move into public domain. I'm not sure how to even find who owns the copywrite if it still applies-many of the publishers are gone. Any ideas?

Rivka,
it will depend in what countries the stories were published.
For the U.S., generally, anything published before 1923 is now in the public domain.
Stanford University has a helpful web site at: http://fairuse.stanford.edu/

Eric,

Thanks. What a great site. It is the clearest information about copywrite I've seen. RW
