"Share a story - Change the World" . . . for Real

"SHARE A STORY, CHANGE THE WORLD" is, when it comes to biblical storytelling, much more than just a catchy motto, catch-phrase or slogan - it's a real possibility. Not just with children, but with adults, as well. With "church-attenders," and with prison inmates.
One of the most powerful aspects of biblical telling is that the life that is changed may well be, and often is, the life of the teller.

I have had opposition with some very organized denominations.  I just went with those that wanted me.  If you know folks that go to the church - that's your best link to the pastor if you don't know him/her.  I initally started by just putting a note on facebook that I was willing to come to churches to share Bible stories - for free.  And believe you me, I stayed busy for quiet some time.  Many of the churches I've been to worship very differently than what I'm accustomed to doing.  But, I've found that I really like the change from time to time.  I found it easy just to go ahead and worship with them - after all we're all worshiping the same God!  Funny - true story - the neatest introduction I ever got was from a man at a church.  It was a little country church.  The pastor was this man's son.  The pastor was sick and could not attend the service.  His dad was to introduce me.  This is what he said, "We got this woman here tonight, and I'm not sure what it is she's here to do, but well, here she is."  I was laughing so hard it was hard to start telling stories.

Thanks, Pam.  I was finding our area seemed hung up on denomination.  Did that never come up or how did you handle it?

Lois:  I do quite a bit of BibleTelling in Churches in my area.  Many are of different denominations than mine.  I just started contacting the pastors, members, etc. and told them I was available.  I don't charge churches.  However, I will accept a love offering.  More times than not, the dontation is larger than my fee would have been anyway.  Right now I'm working on marketing churches.  I'm designing a postcard to send out advertising not only BibleTelling, but telling to Ladies' groups, teens, VBS, etc.

The Bible is the Bible, right?  So how many of us have found ways to do Biblical Storytelling beyond our home church or at least its denomination?  If you have been able to tell outside your church, what marketing helped you get the gig?

Hello Everyone;

Tomorrow morning I will be driving to Florida to teach a radio workshop at StoryFest, at Mount Dora, Florida.  Pretty excited about that.  But the real big news is that on Sunday morning, I will get on a plane and fly to Taiwan.  I will be teaching Bible Telling in several situations.  I intend to blog about it here and on my page.  Just a quick request... pray for me.

Thanks Gang

Dear Friends;

I need your help.  Anne Alexander a member of PS and my dear friend lives and works in Taiwan.  As you know; neighborhoods are very close and are often considered "family."  Yesterday evening for me here in the USA, I learned that a young man, close to Anne, had a motorcycle accident.  He hit the barrier dividing the road.  He was wearing a helmet but it came off during the impact.  At this moment, the surgeons have removed the top of his skull and placed it in his abdomen so it will continue to live and to relieve the pressure associated with head trauma.  The young man, is still in a coma.

I have not asked this group for much.  But, I am asking you to support my friends in Taiwan with prayer.  G_d's will... yes.  But should He choose to heal, wonderful.  Should He choose to bring this young man's life to an end... yes.  But the family will need strength and comforts and grace.  I am asking you to pray.

Thank you

I love to tell a 'sanctifying myth.'  Does anyone know any good ones?

I've enjoyed Rabbi Tobesman's stories a lot, thank you! Tom, how are you doing? What's new with BibleTelling and other opportunities?
