Have been meaning to update my own question from back at the end of 2009. Through involvement here & on 2 other Ning groups I've discovered the answer. That date, if no conversation appears in a Group, means somebody joined the Group. It's misleading for those of us who may just check to see what's the latest post, but it is a dating of activity in a Group.

I sometimes prowl Groups & the Forum for latest activity when I have a small bit of time. Why do dates sometimes appear with absolutely no evidence of anybody posting a reply or other comment on that date? I think I've prowled fairly completely & yet sometimes don't find anything matching the supposedly most recent date.

SAN Records are looking for unique Storytellers/Comedians to
Sign to a promotional deal that would lead to a production deal.

First we are looking for AFRICAN content because we have a african CD slated to be released in Feb. so please hurry.

We are in much need of many Comedians. Why so? because all of our future CD will offer a diversity of (Music Poetry Storytelling Comedian) on all of them.

Hello Everyone;

Please check your freindship request and either accept them or reject them. But please don't let them sit idle. If one hundred people do that, if keeps others from making new friends. Just go to your friends tabs, the little silloettes at the top right of your page, under your name and click it. I expect if you haven't found it by now... you may have many pending new friends.

Just a tip.

Hi Dianne--I would like to let as many people as possible know about my Fringe performance at the NSN Conference. Is there any way to post to everyone?

I click the icon for Add Hyperlink before & after posting a website, but that doesn't add it. What am I missing? That's the way WordPress blogs work, but apparently not the way ning does it.

How to invite someone to join PS?
At the top of your "My Page" there is a hotlink right next to where it says Hello & your name on the right hand side. It says Invite Friends. If you click on it, the screen changes to a spot to put email addresses of people not yet on P.S., under that you have an optional box to write a message to those friends you hope will join us. Click on Send Invitations when you're ready. There also are ways below that button where you can import addresses from some web address books or your address book application.
