What a pleasure to be a part of this exceptional group. I am currently on the Mississippi Arts Commission Teaching Artist Roster and look forward to learning so much from each of you. I teach creative writing through the Continuing Ed Program at Meridian Community College and also use music to put stories and history to music. Currently working on my "Learning History Through Ballads" workshop.

I would post it on the FEST website in regards to your arts curriculum. There are many storyteller/educators in that group. Ulf in Sweden focuses on Storytelling in Education. The trick would be to find the key people in each country. that's all I got.

I have developed an arts curriculum to accompany my documentary film
Stories of the Fairy Folk. Any thoughts on how to get the word out to interested folks?

In addition to being a Professional Storyteller & Published Author, I am a Conflict Resolution Specialist. For five years (1998 to 2003) at an East Tennessee middle school, I taught Conflict Resolution techniques, Character Education strategies, and Public Speaking. The class was called Communication Skills. This story is part of the curriculum I created called 3 C's: Conflict Resolution, Character Education, & Communication Skills.
During that five-year period, I created over 3000 pages of curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

My original plan was to eventually try to get this material published as an additional source of revenue. In light of the two eleven year-old boys who recently committed suicide due to the acidic effects of bullying, I made a decision. Instead of continuing to allow this material to gather dust, I decided to post as many of these stories, class activities, and role-plays as I could in the hopes that it would be of benefit to others.

I just added 11 new Blog Posts having to do with using storytelling to teach the concepts of Conflict Resolution and Character Education. You are welcome to make use of this material as you work with kids. I will be adding more material in the days and weeks to come.

Hi Harvey,
I have a few suggestions for books you might want to include.
Telling Stories your Way: storytelling and reading aloud in the classroom by Bob Barton
Stories in the Classroom by Bob Barton and David Booth
Storytelling for Young Adults by Gail de Vos
Tales, Rumors and Gossip by Gail de Vos (also for teachers of gr 7 - 12)
Figures, Facts & Fables: Telling Tales in Science and Math by Barbara Lipke
Beyond the Beanstalk: Interdisciplinary Learning Through Storytelling by Lynn Rubright
Creative Storytelling by Jack Zipes

And for sheer inspiration and delight, a book that speaks to all storytellers and story lovers about the power of story:
Suddenly They Heard Footsteps by Dan Yashinsky

I'm planning an inservice course entitled, "The Literacy of Storytelling: the power to comprehend". My focus will be to show teachers how to use storytelling in their classes and why it is important. I'm going to give the group a list of books to read (they can read different ones) and have them share their readings with each other: Here is the start of some of the books I want to recomend:
Storyteller Story Teacher by Marni Gillard
Children Tell Stories: A Teaching Guide by Martha Hamilton and Mitch Weiss
Storytelling : A Guide For Teachers by Cahterine Farrell
Tales as Tools - The Power of Story in the Classroom by The National Storytelling Association
Writing as a second language by Donald Davis
Teaching Through Stories: Yours, Mine, and Theirs by Roe, Alfred & Smith
Story Proof: the science behind the startling power of story by Kendall Haven

Any thoughts on the books that I've chosen? Are their any others that should add to my list? Any help would be appreciated.
