Yesterday I:
printed and prepared 25 copies of my last book of poems; prepared 25 CDs for sale; mailed two books to fill orders; verified that all my handouts for this weekend's workshop were printed and ready; printed 25 copies of "So You Want to Be a Storyteller" brochure; worked on final details of contracts for storytellers for the WV Book Festival; worked on final details of my workshop; began packing materials vor the workshop; emailed a teller who is coming from Ohio to the workshop to set up a lunch date; agreed to brainstorm plans for an Oral Traditions tent for the WV State Arts and Craft Fair; posted to my blog; read feeds; opened a lovely surprise package of a blue bottle from a storytelling friend in Nova Scotia; received my check for upcoming workshop (ahead of time--how cool is that!); added a post to the new group I started on PS. Add working a 9-hour day at the library and a 2-hour commute and it becomes a very
l-o-n-g day.

Wow! I love reading what my fellow tellers are doing. Take 5 is a great exercise in discipline, isn't it? I would like to encourage everyone to post their Take 5s as a "discussion." In the "Discussion Forum" at the bottom, click on the "+ Start Discussion" link. In the heading put "Take 5: John Smith (Monday, March 31, 2008)." That way, we can comment on each other's individual Take 5s.

Warmly,
Dianne

1- Mailed fliers with cover letter (on my business letterhead) to
schools in an area where I have a booking in late May. Hoping to
book other programs.

2- Practiced my Appalachian dulcimer.

3- During practice, created new verse for song I’m creating for
Summer Reading programs.

4- Responded to an email inquiry about Summer Reading from “out
of town” library.

5- Searched local library on-line catalog for resources for developing
a program.

6- Picked up a marketing idea from Professional Storyteller that I
haven’t tried.

7- Brainstorming session this morning for storytelling contact ideas
in a new area of the state. Set target day on my desktop
calendar.

Picture of: wide view of the theater tonight for Liz Weir's storytelling concert at South Mountain Community College Spring Festival. Picture looked much better on the phone screen, lol.

Today I: spent time talking about goals and needs with a new corporate client; got a rental car to cover while van in the shop; took my van and its bad brakes, bad undercarriage bad blah blah blah into the dealer for service; picked up my lost and found cell phone from SMCC office; spent time on the phone with my core faculty advisor; had second phone meeting with corporate client- I love learning new things with people and hearing them learn; spent much phone time with a peer in the biz talking about possibilities, hold backs, value and on and on; dealt with catering order for huge family party tomorrow; spoke with another local client who thinks artists are booked by the hour. explained how one hour of performance takes up to three hours of support; spoke to my brothers both #1 and #2 and sister #1; resolved billing issue with hotel regarding presenter's room; communicated with school regarding my upcoming "substitute teacher" gig for college class; prepped my presentation for Sunday morning event; answered Emails about an October event; picked up car from dealer and paid with a pound of flesh, a pint of my own blood and my first born child's future earnings; had lunch with my kids; went to SMCC for the Liz Weir concert- great evening; spoke with storytellers Dustin, Elly, Sandy, Liz, Mark, LynnAnn, Loren, Don, the other Liz; restarted my 43 folders; added yet another topic to my "blog and write" list.

4. mailed out brochures to Convention and Visitors bureaus in the state.

5. updated my blog

6. reviewed more ballad CDS for my upcoming workshop

7. checked out a book on puppet-making for ideas, and to review on my blog and on the review site here.

I committed to this yesterday, so here is my list for the past two days.

1) Watched and learned from Professional Storyteller Liz Weir.
2) Gave my card and received Liz's card. (networking.)
3) Was invited to study in Ireland.
4) Brainstorming and reserching the possibility of creating a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to using storytelling to educate.
5) Read a chapter in :"Earn What You Deserve."

3/26/08

1) Was able to make one of my stories, "Strength" down to 5 min to fit Festival Criteria.
2) Set up an interview with a family I was to craft a story about.
3) Received peer critique for story, "The Three Ladies."
4) Came up with a new story idea... (details coming soon)
5)Read a section in "Earn What You Deserve."

I love this idea! Thanks!! I plan on logging this into my personal records daily.

1. Decided on arrangement for a song to be used this summer that had been hard to figure the right sound.
2. Reviewed stories I will use in 2 different programs next week.
3. Decided I needed a photo enlarged to show the girl who told 1 of the stories I want to use.
4. Since I know I'll use that story often, I had it laminated. Then decided a storytelling poster I made needed lamination. Because it's so large, it needs to be sent by the printer to another location. Verified I'll get it back in time for my program & sent it off.
5. Took Doug Lipman's free online conference call course on making audio recordings. It's time I start doing this on my website & various places where I'm listed that offer the opportunity.
6. Went online to see what was possible. Decided to order the recorder. (Doug recommended BSW & I liked that they honor a 30 day guarantee to match any lower $ I might find on what I ordered.) Plan to buy other components as it fits my budget.

1. Performed for a Head Start groupas part of a grant program.
2. Discussed invoice for that program.
3. Printed invoice and packing slip for DVD order, packed DVDs.
4. Shipped DVDs.
5. Worked on Going Deep: The Long Traditional Story Fest workshop.

Hey, how do I put tags on this?
Patti Christensen Comment by Patti Christensen on March 26, 2008 at 9:31am
Love this idea. Yesterday: returned calls to two possible venues, got ready for a phone interview with a local reporter today, sent an email thanking a librarian and double checking on the check, sent out a bunch new "friend" requests on this network, had my partner call and book two library summer reading programs with someone we met at a workshop last Thursday (yah, remembered to call him on the day he asked us to!), sent am email to the illustrator we are working with for a new children's book with a gentle nudge...where are the next set of drawings? Oh, and got a reply back with an endorsement quote from a school principal about a show we did early in the month. Ok.....now the days are running together...was that yesterday or the day before or this morning. Anyway. A great reminder that there are so many balls in the air, and we need to regularly "toss and catch". Have a good day.
