Professional Storyteller is a network for people who work in the field of oral storytelling. Please write a brief paragraph about your work.
Orally, I tell stories via song. I write poetry and short stories as well. My content has much to do with the human situation and with personal experiences. However, I thoroughly enjoy creating tales about animals, too.

Hey, Alexis, me yet again!

I was just welcoming a new member who, like you is just beginning on the journey of presenting her stories.  Found myself quoting someone I think you need to hear.

I said: A storyteller who was a mentor of mine, Papa Joe (Gaudet), wisely said: If you want to be a storyteller, tell stories; If you want to be a better storyteller, tell more stories.

Speaking as a researcher who really has to force myself to stop, or at least not let it stop me from presenting the Work Thus Far, be sure to take your storytelling into your gigs.  As a musician you probably are even more perfectionistic.

Pleasepleaseprettyplease, don't let it stop you from presenting a Work In Progress.  Storytelling is something that develops in front of an audience & really only with an audience. Unlike other performing arts, rehearsals are unable to completely develop your work.

The beauty (& the agony) is that there's always more to do, but then you already know that from your music.

Welcome to this new for you, old art, Alexis!

P.S. Love both your pictures.

Welcome, Alexis!

Folk songs often tell stories &, of course, there's always that transition time when a story can be inserted.  May your plunge prove to be a long distance swim!!!
