Hi Christi, I have had a few Red White and Blue days telling stories since SLA. LOC for original Ben Franklin research after SLA got me all fired up and I have spent time at the Hermitage this summer so working on an Andrew Jackson story line too!
Getting started - best tip is just do it! Pick a theme that you like and pull together several stories so that you can do a 20 minute (great for classroom) and or/ 30 minute or 50-60 minute program and then share your passion. Local PR is fine with homemade business cards and postcards that are easy as your computer printer to make and enough to make connections. After you make $500-$1000 then you can get all "professional" and buy printed stuff.
www.misspockets3.com is a yahoo site - with video check out all the buttons across the top. Inexpensive but very helpful. All of my May and July programs came from the contact us form on the back page!
And it is fun! See you on Facebook!
I know this is a long time coming, but it has been a crazy summer. I have not been attending the Boro Tellers because I've been studying at ETSU. Right now I'm up to my neck finishing this degree and am not quite ready to commit to anything. I've heard through the grapevine though that Boro Tellers is trying to encourage more regular attendees. After December, we'll see. However, I'd enjoy continuing to communicate with you. Maybe we could meet for coffee sometime in August (when I return to Nashville). Thanks!
Yes, christi, as Mother Goose I focus primarily on the traditional rhymes, and I also tell Aesop's fables as well as Nursery Rhymes. I recently acquired a book of stories about the rhymes written by L. Frank Baum which are fun to tell.
Fables and rhymes are a really great way to get started.
I would probably disagree with Miller. I don't think one needs a reason to be happy. Knowing the reason for one's happiness being a cause to lose said happiness, seems to be a fairly limited belief to adopt. Perhaps it is the focus on the destination, rather than the journey, that led Miller to his theory? ;-)
I'm originally from Michigan but only one brother is still in that state. My other brother is in Arkansas. I have an extended family in Hawaii and southern California; these are relative of a long-time partner who has passed away. I try to visit some of them each year (Hawaii was part of my Seattle trip). I also have a community of friends in Seattle through music and storytelling. The folk music/acoustic music thread, and now the storytelling thread hold my life.
Thanks for visiting my page. Yes, there is often more than meets the eye... and that's a story waiting to be told for most everybody. Sometimes a story of which the person themself is sometimes unaware.
