Profile Information

About Me:
Debra Olson-Tolar has been a professional storyteller since 1997. Her world folktales and personal stories are empowering, educational, and entertaining. Whether telling stories of strong women and girls or tales of wisdom and wonder, her enthusiastic style sweeps listeners into another time and place. According to one reporter, "This talented lady has certainly perfected the art of storytelling. She had us all on the edge of our seats waiting for her words."

Debra's newest project is the solo show, "Raising My Voice". The show weaves together personal narrative and tales of strong women as Debra learns to raise her voice.

Debra's background includes a B.A. degree in Acting, an M.A. in Communication (both from the University of Northern Colorado) and a Ph.D. (from the University of Denver) in Speech Communication. She was a Professor of Communication Arts at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, CA, for 19 years where she taught "The Art of Storytelling" and "Studies in Storytelling." She also conducts workshops for teachers on using storytelling in the classroom, teaches intensive weekend workshops for other storytellers, and conducts individual and small group coaching sessions for those who want feedback on their storytelling skills. Debra is a member of the National Storytelling Network, and presented a workshop at their national conferences in July 2004 and July 2006.

Her storytelling CD is titled "The Stars in the Sky" and is available from cdBaby. Individual stories available for download at iTales

That's odd... I still see the old head-line after trying to change it several times?! What exactly do you see?

That's fun. Its funny how all these connections form throughout relationships, and I, for one, am glad of that.

Hi Debra,

We've followed parallel academic paths, you and I. Congrats on the many accomplishments, and thanks for adding me to your friends list. Looking forward to many popping conversations and sharing of knowledge.

Debra! Hail and well met! Did you know that I still remember taking a workshop from you -- I think it was at the inagural Los Angeles Storytelling Festival.

I'm looking foward to following your thoughts here!

I'm begining to wonder how many folks I may actually know here!

Hi Debra
Thanks for the friend request. Utah has a couple of nice venues for storytellers. Have you applied for the Timpanogas Storytelling Festiva?

Hi Debra, glad you like the music. I was a little unsure of adding it to my page. I joined Professional Storyteller yesterday and am having so much fun. I really must do some work on my profile!
