Martin, You are right to say that quantitative data is difficult to gather concerning the subjective experience of storytelling. However, Kendall Haven's book, Story Proof ,is the best collection to date of all the evidence out there. I guest edited…
Hi Ann, This is the first announcement I've seen of the StoryWorks. I will probably be listening to stories since I have to work all afternoon at the Swappin' Grounds. Good luck to you all and I hope to see you at the ETSU Reunion and around. Delanna
Kevin,
Since the local dialect is difficult, I can understand why you don't speak it. When I was 20 years old I spent a month studying Spanish in Salamanca and came away with a decent ability to speak Castillian. Of course, I had several years of sc…
Penelope,
I left work the day we were writing back and forth and managed to stay away and offline for the holiday weekend. Yeah! So, to answer your question, I live in Johnson City, TN - right next door to Jonesborough, home of the National Storyte…
I think that homophobia is pervasive across the country. We find specific places that are opening up, thank goodness. I would have to say that the south is usually the bastion of right-wing conservativism. Fundamental Christianity is very strong the…
Hey there! I have been preoccupied with the start of the fall semester at ETSU, so I haven't responded to the discussion lately. I agree with Kevin that most areas are not open to hearing LGBT stories. The question is who do we tell them to? We tell…
Yes, that is something I would like to start doing. I live in such a conservative area that I am a bit timid about it. I would love to see an example of a story you have changed that way.
Dear Delanna Reed,
sorry for taking so long to respond to you. I hope you did not forget that information. I do appreciate any information you give me. Please look around and send me any material you have. I really believe oral storytelling is fantastic in the classroom as well as doing a show in an auditorium. I use my stories to teach after-school children in reading and other content areas. Again, I apologize for just getting back to you. Thanks for all you do,
Hi Delanna! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Hope this finds you well. I see from the LANES Brochure you'll be at Sharing the Fire - that's terrific. I'll be there too so we'll have a chance to catch up. I'm excited to see you and welcome you to New England :). Safe travels.
xo, Leeny
Hi Delanna -- yes, it was a delightful workshop getting people involved in org story work talking about what kinds of storytelling education we need, and reflecting on developments in the field. I'm writing up the notes and will post all soon. Talk with you soon!
Hi Delanna - How nice to see you here. I look forward to running into you in the various groups, etc. This looks like a very entertaining site. C U! Mimi
Hi MyLinda! It's good to hear from you. I will probably be fairly silent on this website, but I do hope to get some time to put interesting things about myself online.
I simply think of oral interpretation as separate from storytelling. However, I could do some kind of performance course in the future that includes performance of literature. Thank you for the suggestion.
I won't be around much during the second summer session, but I will try to drop in and see those of you who will be here.
Hi Delanna;
Glad you joined the family. Hope to see you at ETSU this summer. I will be there second session along with Rachel Hedmon. I wish you were teaching an advanced O.I. class. See you soon.
