Hi, Doug - I need to thank you! Your harmonica playing at Jonesborough and on one of the NSN albums gave me confidence to start playing my own harmonica in some of my programs. I am not in your class - but am still having fun learning to add more music to my stories. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. I did my own sharing in the field of education for 33 years and told my tales mostly in schools. I always was working when other tellers got to travel to the festivals and conferences and mingle with other storytelllers. I retired 3 1/2 years ago to begin telling stories full time. So - I now get to see my heroes like you and so many other tellers. I look forward to meeting you in person some time and continuing to listen and learn. Sincerely, Mike Lockett
We met at the NSN conference in Gatlinburg. If you'll remember we talked about your son Todd in the parking lot of the hotel. I was delighted to see him in Jonesboro. I'm sorry that I never got to touch base with you.

Hi Doug, how are you??? Glad to see you here. I want to tell you how much I enjoyed your midnight cabaret performance at J'bro a few years ago --- I thought you were brilliant. We have some friends who met on Groundhog Day and then married on Groundhog Day a year later, and they asked us to tell some groundhog stories at ther wedding!! We didn't exactly have a repertoire of groundhog stories at our fingertips so we listened to Groundhogology a few times for inspiration. We wound up doing some other research and eventually told, not exactly a groundhog story, but some really interesting historical stuff about the meaning of groundhog day; its origins as Candlemas, the cross-quarter day when folks would take stock and see if they had enough food to make it through the remainder of the winter, ect. Then we told a story about King Solomon's beautiful groundhog -- I mean, beautiful daughter. Doug, you are a great inspiration and I look forward to being your friend and getting to know you. Lawrence.

I surely enjoyed walkin' the walk in a little piece of the Smokies with you at the NSN conference. Too bad it couldn't have lasted longer.

A good friend gave me your ground hog cd because they knew I love storytelling.
