At 12:38pm on January 11, 2009, Gary Carden said…: For what it is worth, the state of North Carolina recently gave me the Folklore Award (Brown Carson Award) and Western Carolina University gave me an honorary doctorate. Awards make me nervous since there seems to be a tendency to give them to folks who are getting ready to shake off this mortal coil. I am also a playwright and most of my plays started as stories.
