Do animals figure prominently in your stories? Talking, teaching, magical, provocative, long-suffering, animals have been part of story since story began. Let's talk about how you include them in your tales.
Gary,
Nice to read of another Kamishibai Storyteller. We have been doing that too since 1992. My husband was Professor of Japanese Language and Culture at Antioch College (retired). We traveled every year to Japan for many years, staying 3 months each visit. Harold has a photo of a Kamishibai storytelling in 1952 in Iwakuni. So pleased that Canada can see you and know of this old Japanese tradition. Jonatha

About Me:
I am 60 years old and have taken up ventriloquism and puppetry to combine with storytelling. My storytelling is drawn from my life experience as a crime scene investigator, outdoor photojournalist, and historical buff. I use my photographs in my story box assisted with my staff of puppets.
Kamishibai is the tradition of Japanese storytellers that rode bicycles with their story box to tell illustrated stories to children. I will use my bicycle to go to public spaces to tell stories using my photographs in the story box. Stories will be interactive using ventriloquism with puppet characters . Stories will be drawn from personal experience to teach lesson of respect for the natural environment and its creatures.
