Special education teacher by day, storyteller at all times!
My storytelling has taken me places as varied as a riverboat in Clear Lake Iowa to the International Wolf Center in Ely Minnesota.
I am a member of the Wisconsin Humanities Council Speakers Bureau and enjoy the small town venues this has brought me.
Currently, I'm serving as President Elect of Northlands Storytelling Network. Come to our conference the last full weekend in April at our new site, the Green Lake Conference Center, in Green Lake Wisconsin!
I'm guessing you're counting the hours 'til your Big Weekend - hope it's a huge success for all involved.
Down here in the middle of Texas (Belton) we (Kiwanis Club) are hosting a Fun Day in the Park . . . granted, not as huge an undertaking as yours, but significant around here. Theme: TURTLES ON THE CHISHOLM TRAIL - which grew out of a story I told last fall, "The True Tale of the Origin of The Chisholm Trail," which was my winning entry in the Texas Storytelling Festival's Lone Star Liar's Contest (2007).
You teach Special Ed. in primary or secondary schools? When did you begin telling?
I ask because I'm teaching high school, tho' I retired last summer - I know, it's a long, crazy story...BUT 29 days to go, and THAT'S IT~!
And this time I REALLY mean it!
Anyway, hope this weekend is all that you want it to be, and I look forward to hearing a bit more about you, and your teaching and tellling experience, when you have the time.
Hi Gwyn,
You may ask the question here, but you did a good job with the topic in the current issue of "Storytelling Magazine." Your retreat sounds perfect. For a long time I had a school as a lab. for practice + the library. Now it's just the 2 groups where I'm involved. I agree with the comment that nonstorytellers are a different & useful resource, too.
LoiS(till searching, but see YOU soon at Northlands)
So can I venture to say that you are a True Blue Wisconsinite Packer Backer Cheesehead? I am.
The Northlands Storytelling Conference always conflicts with my yearly trips to Fresno, California for the Arne Nixon Storytelling Festival. In the afternoon I teach graduate students/teachers how to use storytelling to meet curriculum standards.
Katie Knutson was kind enough to share the New Voices scholarships for the Northlands anyway.
Gwyn, Oh the stories you could tell! Welcome to Professional Storyteller on Ning! Be sure to post news, announcements, photos and video! Promote yourself! Warmly, Dianne
