I am a musical storyteller with a lifetime involvement in the folk arts. With Scottish bagpipe, fiddle, sit-down square dancing, Celtic, Appalachian and personal tales, I perform for audiences of all ages from pre-schoolers to seniors.
I am a national touring artist giving performances, workshops and residencies in singing, storytelling and writing. In 1998 I was a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN and this October (2008) I will be a Storyteller-in-Residence at the Storytelling Center. On Thanksgiving Day 1999, I and my daughters were interviewed by Noah Adams on All Things Considered.
I have 7 recordings of songs and stories (many award winning) and 2 children's picture books to my credit.
I host the "Pie and Storytelling Festival" in my home town of Belfast, ME each year and in 2006, (no it wasn't rigged!) I won first place in the "yummy mess" category for my apple pie!
I enjoy your blend of tales and tunes.
Nice to have you here among your busy pursuits.
Speaking of which if you have room I would love to help out at your Pie Festival this fall.

Welcome to the site. I share an interest in Celtic stories and music. I also play the highland bagpipes but I've been banned from playing them in my house so I practice in church basements and vacant lots.
Dear Storytellers!
Thank you for all your kind words of welcome. I hope I can move from my Luddite mentality and participate in this electronic, cyber space community. Norah thank you for your appreciation of my version of The "Boy" Who Had No Story. Mille, I will be back at ETSU in October. Tom, I sure hope I will get to Texas some time too. We can swap poetry. I share my own and others as well. Buck, thanks for inviting me into this circle. David Joe, I'm going to try and load a photo now...wish me luck. Happy Spring to all of you.

Welcome.
I love the sound of the bagpipes all nasal and key of D ish
I remember seeing/hearing you at the JP Library in the 90s - what a fine show. Tales and tunes interwoven so wonderfully. I still remember your version of the Irish tale of a traveler(a girl)without a story. Beautiful.

Bagpipes, fiddle, banjo and guitar, songs, poetry and tales - I CANNOT wait 'til you make it down to Texas!
There is a big bagpipe thing every year, just down the road, in Salado, TX - a meeting of the Clans, or some such, and it is HUGE - always well-attended by both participants and audience members.
Do you present your own poetry? I ask because we have some things in common, and I love sharing original songs and poems (tales, too).
Very nice site you have, some great pics - especially of the 3 of you during 'the move.'
This, as you must have heard from David Joe, is an awesome site for tellers of all stripes. I think you will quickly learn to appreciate it as much as the rest of us do - it is really very special.
I am delighted you have made your way here, anticipate your contributions to the site and its inhabitants, look forward to seeing/hearing/experiencing your CDs and DVDs so as to have a better sense of what you share with your audiences, wish you continued success and fulfillment as your work your way to Texas and, again, send my warm greetings and Welcome!
I am so glad you are here. I can't wait til you upload some audio files and maybe some video so we can hear you play and tell. Jump into all the groups you want... start one if you like... there are some good discussions and excellent people. If I can help with anything... just holler.
Welcome again
