About Me:
Availability: Full time and prepared to travel.

Repertoire:

Joe will take you on a journey of magic and wonder through the highways and byways of Ireland, from his native Wexford to his home in Donegal. He will bring you over the seas to exotic and mysterious lands that lie beyond the horizon of our imaginations. His repertoire of folktales, myths, legends and original stories reflect the wide gamut of human experiences and emotions.

Preferred audience:
Joe tells stories to, and facilitates workshops with, people of all ages.

Background experience:

Joe is a natural communicator, very much at ease with any audience. Growing up in Wexford he was steeped in stories of days and characters past by both his parents. His affinity with stories, and those who inhabit them, was further deepened through his work as a teacher and radio broadcaster, and by his experiences travelling. Joe has told stories in schools, libraries, nursing homes and community locations across Ireland and beyond. He has also facilitated workshops in storytelling and creative writing with a wide range of groups including school children and teachers.

He has featured in numerous festivals including Viennna Lit.(2008), Nyskund Storytelling Festival, Norway(2007); ‘100, 1000, 1000000 Stories’ International Theatre Festival for Children, Bucharest, Romania(2007); Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival; ‘Stories from the Hearth’ Festival, Wexford; Sperrins Storytelling Festival; Ulster Storytelling Festival, Cultra; Wainsfest, Donegal and Bealtaine.

Joe is the author of the highly successful children’s plays ‘The Witchin’ Well’(2005) and Stone Soup(2008). He also wrote the ‘spoken’ script for the musical ‘The Environment’(2008).

Vienna enjoys an endless golden autumn this year :-) I met Clare at Lausanne this summer during the FEST meeting. She is a wonderful person and storyteller! Hope to meet you next time, too!
Best wishes from Vienna, Birgit

Hi Joe, I'm pleased it went well. Your request inspired me to continue writing more raps, rhymes and songs about Australian animals. I usually like to pair a story with a rhyme/song. Just finished a Koala song to the tune of 'There's a hole in the bucket'. (Where I live there is a Koala hospital and just the other morning while i was having breakfast I saw one bounding up the road. A rare sight because they're arboreal). I'm always happy to pass on material to other storytellers and get feedback. I'm fairly knew to PS so will add some material to the Story Library soon. Cheers

Hello Joe, I am replying to your request for a rhyming story for 3/4 year olds. Do you know 'I went walking'?
You can adapt it to whatever environment you want eg. i went walking on the beach and what did I see? or I went walking in the jungle and what did I see? You can also do what did I hear...sitting/standing/lying very near.
Because I'm Australian I'll give you a rendition of Australian animals:

I went walking in the bush and what did I see? (you can sign or show pictures of the animals if you like)
I saw a koala smiling at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did I see?
I saw a kookaburra laughing at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did I see?
I saw a wombat winking at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did I see?
I saw a kangaroo blinking at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did i see?
I saw a cockatoo squawking at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did I see?
I saw a possum smiling at me.
I went walking in the bush and what did I see?
I saw a brown snake hissing at me.
A brown snake hissing? Thats no fun.
Guess what I did?
Run Run Run!!!

If you want more raps and rhymes let me know.
Cheers Morgan
PS Love you picture.

Hey Joe - hope everything's well your end as well! More and more of my time consists of storytelling these days, and needless to say, I am all the happier for it. Things are really working out with our organization as well, and this summer I'm planning to go to FEST. Hope to see you around in this little big world of ours.
Cheers,
Torgrim
