This group is for those of us who like to hire storytellers and feature them as performers on our stages or in our venues.

We always start our performance with a very soothing piece of music. It creates a boundary between "everyday hustle and bustle" and the world of story that we create. It also usually calms everybody down. If there is disruption later in the show I...

About Me:
I perform myths, legends, folk tales and ballads. Many from my native Finland but also from India where I studied dance for many years and other parts of the world. I perform together with my husband Scott Darsee who is a guitarist and composes and arranges music for our performances. We both moved here to New Mexico from Scandinavia in 2001 and since then we have enjoyed touring and performing all around New Mexico as well as around the country at festivals, theaters, libraries and other venues.

The current plan for the Summer Solstice Festival is that it resume in 2010, with 2009 reserved for other events. Too many difficulties, including the hiring of the new CTMS director...

Sorry you didn't get to the FAR-West conference. It turned out to be right next to the Mesa, Arizona storytelling festival, which was good, too. A lot of the workshops and master classes were applicable to storytelling, even though they were aimed more at musicians.

Right now I'm doing the children's production. I'm conducting youth worksops for the summer. I'll keep you informed as shows come up. Always good to hear from you...and yes let's dance!

It seems we have a mutual friend, Kaisa. She's my dancing buddy. I hadn't seen her since my dance accident. Saw her Saturday and couldn't wait to show her my dance scar. Would you believe it...she has the exact same scar...same place! Wow! We haven't talked for 2 years now and can still make a connection. I taped her name and phone number on my desk about 4 years ago because I kept calling her Theresa. She just looks like a Theresa to me but that's not the name her parents gave her...so though she allowed me to call her Theresa, I wrote her name and kept it on my desk. I think the next dance she and I will have is a celebration of healing.
Peace Out

Hello Johanna!

Haven't met you officially but now we see your pix. Love the fact that you are movement based in your storytelling. We are too. Nancy & I are a kinetic story theater duet called Eth-Noh-Tec. We create storytelling delegations to Asia. Next trip is INDIA! Chennai- where we'll engage on a deep level with master storytellers and other story-based arts: puppeteers, street theater, musicians, balladeers in Tamil & Irula indigenous tribal artists. It's grass-roots. It's artist-based. It's on an engaging COMMUNITY level. Visit our website: ethnohtec.org and find out about the trip: Nov 1-16, 2008. We are now taking in applicants. We're limiting the delegation to 30 people.

Nice hearing from you. Yes, I find my work in Bhutan quite satisfying and rewarding. Hopefully it is of value for them as well! I agree with you: "...traditional stories from different cultures can sometimes help us find common ground, slow us down and anchor us back to the basic humanity." Thanks for sharing that. Why don't you consider joining our Applied Storytelling group? We would love to have you share your thoughts there! Best wishes. STEVE

Hello, Scott and Johanna, and Welcome!

Beautiful video, wonderful communication of what you do in less than 3 1/2 minutes - excellent!

This site and its "residents" can encourage and support you as you pursue this telling path, which you share with so many.

You both have much to offer, and to share with the rest of us, and I do hope that you will take advantage of your many opportunities to share your wisdom, experience, philosophy and perspective with the site.

I wish you all the best, and look forward to learning more about you and what you do; would love to be able to see you perform in person one of these days.

Best to you and, again, my warm greetings and Welcome!

Sincerely,

Tom Taylor - Deep in the Heart of Texas
