Profile Information

Professional Storyteller is a network for people who work in the field of oral storytelling. Please write a brief paragraph about your work.
Sean Buvala is a storyteller in the oral storytelling tradition. In that tradition, he tells stories from around the world. But it’s the how of his storytelling that sets him apart. You’re more likely now to find Sean working at events that blend the many forms of the spoken word together. Think slam-style events. Sean often tells folktales and fairytales with a modern sensibility, oftentimes mixing those old tales with bits of personal experience that brings the audience along. Int telling these hybrid-type tales, Sean helps the audience to know that our modern concerns aren’t so unique; even our ancestors had to have a way to express joy, love, anger, betrayal, and ecstasy.

You’ll find Sean working his specific style on the same stages where others are spitting their own truth.

Sean began his work back in the mid-1980s, working with young people to teach the essentials of life skills through the medium of storytelling. He’s worked with some of the largest businesses in the world as well as the smallest entrepreneurial startups. Having worked across such industries as human services, hospitality, medicine, mining, and technology, he’ uniquely placed to help your business as well.

Work with Sean Buvala to develop your own unique speaking style. You’ll find his unique approach to content over technique to be a refreshing way to approach your next communication event.

Storytelling Tip: Where to Find Anecdotes

Sometimes the hardest part of how to create a story is being able to find the story starters. These anecdotes (and the little brother called the “float”) may at first seem hard to come by. Let me suggest to you a few things that you might use to find the bits and pieces of stories in your life.

Old photos are usually the first place that storytellers turn to when needing to get a story starter. This is true in both business and personal…

Hi Sean! Thanks for the link and info. Mesa, eh? I know Steve has read my bio, so I haven't a clue as to why my address has changed. Perhaps there is more prestige for storyteller if they live in Mesa? Hitting the road for Utah in an hour - will pass through Mesa, so maybe that counts. gb

The house concerts I'm aware of have been connected with other arts orgainziations or non profits or have been private parties. Have you dealt with house concerts with are independent? What tax issues have you dealt with? I'd love ot expand house concerts as a fundraising op for non profits. Any insights? RW
