Profile Information

About Me:
I am originally from New York and have been a storyteller most of my life. Around the age of 10, I learned to tell the Yukon ballads of Robert W. Service; I still do. I tell solo, and also as half of the tandem team Storyharmonics, with my wife and partner, Lynne Duddy. I especially like to tell to adult audiences. I love folktales but I also love to tell personal stories. This winter I did my first-ever historical story, creating and telling a two-and-a-half-hour program about the great British Antarctic explorer, Ernest Shackleton. It's a story that holds a special significance because my father and I shared a lifelong interest in the Shackleton saga. I called it Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare, and it was so well-received that I am now planning to develop an entire series of adventure stories about Antarctica and the Heroic Age of Exploration around the turn of the last century.

YOU can send Lawrence Howard to Antarctica --- all you have to do is VOTE on the Quark Expedition site

It is my life-love dream to go to Antarctica. And Quark Expeditions now has a contest that I could win if only you would vote for me. Yes, that's right... All you have to do is VOTE FOR ME:

It's a crazy, cumbersome process to vote but would be so worth it!!!

You have to register, then confirm, then go back to the site, then login, & then finally Vote! But I would be so grateful and it would mean so much to me. I have developed a storytelling series called Armchai… Continue

Hi, Lawrence.
Sorry for the late response.
I'm having trouble keeping up with correspondence, what with e-mails, this site, etc.
I don't have plans to bring "A Beautiful Game" to Portland, Oregon as of yet, but one never knows.
Hope all's well with you,
My best to Lynne also.
Michael

The Event where everyone is sitting on the Hay bales is the Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch. Every year I go and perform for "Kids Day".
It is always fun.

I don't normally join these kind of things, but this one really seemed to fit the bill. I'm so excited to meet and learn about other performers. even though You'll always be one of my favorite.

Hi Lawrence

Historical stories are the centrepiece of the Kootenay Storytelling Festival, my passion over the last nine years. We're sitting out for a year this time but will return. Telling stories is a great way of "delivering" history.

Hey, Lawrence, Lessee, just finished my taxes, getting ready to teach a workshop, and trying to stay afloat at my Day Job. Lots of new initiatives and projects which are consuming vast quantities of my energy and sleep time. Sigh. How's about you? How is the show going? I hope things are going well.

Hi, Lawrence,
Thanks for your message.
Have not told any of those stories, since I just opened a new show about my long-time connection to ice hockey, called "A Beautiful Game," and am trying to promote that. Am also writing another one tentatively titled "The Goofy Show." So, Tante Odette will have to wait. Glad your Shackleton show went so well.
By the way, I can barely keep up with e-mails, so it's unlikely I'll be a constant participant here.
I wish you the best,
Michael

Dear Lawrence:

Welcome to the "College Big Cats: Tracking and Capturing Gigs" group, especially as your tandem partner, Lynne Duddy, was already with us.

Perhaps we can expect a tandem discussion from you?

You may have noticed the e-Course there on basic marketing for college venues.

Until we tell again,

Welcome to Professional Storyteller! Glad you made it here. Your storytelling show about Antarctica sounds absolutely fascinating. Lynne is a beautiful woman and you two are lucky to be able to tell together. What a wonderful life. Be sure that you and Lynne join the "It Takes Two" tandem storytelling group. Best wishes!
