Professional Storyteller is a network for people who work in the field of oral storytelling. Please write a brief paragraph about your work.
I am a children's librarian who specialises in early literacy and a professional storyteller for children and families.
I do lots of training workshops for child care workers and librarians interested in storytelling for young children, especially in programs that promote early literacy.
I love working with props, puppets and audience participation in my storytelling.
Wow! Not only have you heard about that theme which was only in our state, but now Oz is using pretty much the same theme as is being used in most states for this summer: Storytelling = One World, Many Stories.
Truly it is getting to be a smaller world all the time.
Now if only the airfare was correspondingly small. I'd have loved to see Perth & meet Mabel in person. I hope her legacy lasts a long time in Aussie storytelling.
I smile as I read your profile. It's so much like my own for so many years. I wound up doing about a 2 year study of Australia with storytelling friends from Oz because here in Michigan (the mitten-shaped state up near Canada) we planned a Summer Reading program around the theme of G'day for Reading. Did you know Mabel Kaplan? She was a member here & a great online friend I miss now that she's sharing stories in her afterlife. She's 1 of many Aussie friends I made via Storytell, an email list that still exists, but back then Professional Storyteller didn't.
Here there's now a group specifically for Australian storytellers. That, using the search box, following blogs, the various groups which interest you, & the forum discussions, all give you wonderful access to over 1700 members around the world. Enjoy meeting & getting to know your international storytelling family!
