Thank you, Denis. This is precisely why I say "The deaf community is a true community and American Sign Language is a true language." Hopefully anyone taking a class in ASL is also getting an introduction to this. Getting out & associating with de...

For fillers, try jokes & riddles. Halloween is fast upon us & a black kettle filled with them on individual strips lets you choose from your audience somebody to pull 1 out, read it (if kids, read it for them), & move on to the next story.

Tim, I just started a very specialized ning site for those interested in storytelling in Michigan & am experiencing a similar issue. Folks are pleased to have the opportunity to network & also promote themselves & events, but they're mainly a gro...

Don't post your home address on the Interent. Use a PO Box. In some cases, tho, it is already too late. I tend to post very generic schedules. As well, my house is never empty of people at any rate. Scary times sometimes.

Profile Information

About Me:
After roughly 35 years of combining storytelling with being a children's librarian, I'm now a full-time professional storyteller.

Some of the places to find me on the internet besides my website:
*MI Arts & Humanities Directory
*Historical Society of Michigan Directory
*Storyteller.net;
*behind the scenes of the Youth, Educators, & Storytellers (Y.E.S.) Alliance as my position on the Y.E.S. board is webmaster
*I've added to my own website the following blog that lets you see online the email newsletter "MIStory", which lists Michigan storytelling events & I post information related to storytelling groups in Michigan . MIStory online's address is http://michiganstorytelling.org
*I'm also the Michigan state rep. for National Storytelling Network so this lets me help promote Michigan storytelling & Michigan storytellers.
*locally on NorthOaklandCountyStorytellers.org
*as a member of Northlands Storytelling Network, I'm found on the Michigan page of Northlands.net
*National Storytelling Network's information at Storynet.org

After all those years storytelling in library, I've a large international folktale repertoire, which can include puppets, sign language, & music. I also reenact Liberetta Lerich Green, who grew up on a Mich. Underground Railroad Station & was active in the Civil War homefront effort. Liberetta always travels 100 years into today, so she has many historical topics available to her. Additional historical reenactment characters are a Hired Girl and a 1 Room Schoolteacher. Workshops for children, teachers, librarians & storytellers, including residencies are also available.

Hi Lois, yes I'm here! A Tim/Tom combination sounds... hmm, like a percussion workshop. Okay, I'm up for that.

Greetings.
The Icelandic-American storyteller was probably telling Christmas stories about the Yule-Lads, the thirteen sons of the Troll woman Grýla. There are many sources of their stories in many different languages.
As for the wood-trolls they are probably taken from Norwegian tradition, as there are very few trees here in Iceland and the trolls tend to live in caves, cliffs/mountains and lakes/rivers.

Hi Lois,

Great to hear from you! It's so nice to finally get to see a pictures of my internet pals. I also like the fact that the profiles give a little more insight into what people are doing than a normal listerv would.

Cheers,

Sheila

Info on Michigan Storytelling website/blog by LoiS

I want to announce I now host the online version of the email list, MI Story. This lists storytelling in Michigan or including Michigan storytellers; links to find Michigan storytellers; national, regional, & local organizations; & any available classes or call for tellers. http://michiganstorytelling.org

Yvonne Healy puts MI Story together as Editor-in-Chief & Judy Sima handles the email distribution. Yvonne decided last year to stop maintaining an online version on her website. (Honestly I don't know how she handled all the hats she wore, but I learned about quite a few of them when we almost lost her to a planned move to Nevada.)

I hope fills the need for travellers & others wanting to find storytelling, but don't subscribe to the email newsletter. It's attached to my website http://www.LoiS-sez.com , so why not take a peek there, too?
LoiS(miling just to know once again we have an online means of people in & out of state seeing what's going on in Michigan storytelling)

Why is it I always feel like photos of me look like blackmail material!?!? In my "Little Plaid Riding Hood" cape I look like a refugee, but then we all do, don't we?

Csenge, you certainly are fitting your business card where you call yourself The Multicolored Lady! The page may be in Hungarian, but I can't help noticing you labelled us all The Trickster Sisters.
Hmmmmmmmm. . . I may just resemble that remark. I know the others in the photo sure do.

It was great getting together. With luck your ears have recovered from my shock at seeing you!
