EU: They're breaking the Internet & Copyright tomorrow

My normal focus is U.S. storytelling, with Net Neutrality here an issue requiring me to speak up, but the EU is taking action tomorrow that will affect the internet and copyright -- which is already messed up enough.  The EU will massively harm small publishers, new startups, and creators, including storytellers, across the world if they succeed. Please go to …See More

Profile Information

My Profile Information Disappeared!

I tell Stories from Around the World and Back Through Time.

  • My large supply of stories permits programs on most topics. Stories may use sign language, music, puppets or dance with programs for all age levels.  Among my reenacting is a woman who was a World War I phone operator, another woman who grew up on an Underground Railroad station, family Civil War activity, and was a farmer's widow -- other historical aspects covered: pioneer MI, the War of 1812, schools, life 100 yrs. ago, Victorian times and the 1950s. My storytelling supports reading in many ways as well as tailoring it to fit thematic programs. I also teach basic American Sign Language & "baby sign" as well as telling in voice and sign.
  • While most of my storytelling has been in Michigan, I have told in other states, the territory of Puerto Rico, plus Canada, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and St. Kitts.
  • Starting in 1970, I have roughly 45 years of storytelling experience. Until the autumn of 2006, this was combined with librarianship when I was accepted into the MI performing arts touring directory. I left Mount Clemens Public Library (where I was in charge of Children's Services) for full-time storytelling. My current listing with MI Arts & Humanities Directory was renewed & runs through 2018.
  • Because my storytelling frequently requires research, my blog Storytelling + Research = LoiS covers a wide variety of topics & shares some of my work to help others know more.
  • My website hosts Michigan Storytelling.Org as I have a passion for supporting storytelling, which includes storytelling organizations. I founded Mt.C. Raconteurs & North Oakland County Storytellers, serving their 1st 2 yrs. as president.  It also led me to the joy of serving as an Assistant Administrator here.

There's much more, but this gives an overview.

A to Z, Puppets Are Easy!

I just posted a blog about the Great Lakes Regional Puppet Festival at my personal blog, Storytelling + Research = LoiS, about the workshop I'll be doing (along with information on other workshops).  It may help others decide to come to the Detroit area, July 24 to 27.  Yes, that's opposite the National Storytelling Network conference,…

eBook on Storytelling & Adult Learning

Sheherazade Manual or 1001 Stories for Adult Learning might just interest many of us.  It's definitely an international production, including storytelling projects from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.  While the editors aren't members of P.S., I know it includes some of our members as I recognized…

Storytellers and possibly other performers are being targeted…

Hi again Lois - In case you're interested, I'm doing a pre National Storytelling Week show to the SW of London at Riverhouse Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on Friday 29 January.

My actual National Storytelling Week performance in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, is a guest artist spot in a poetry open mic event at Smokey Joe's coffee bar on Thursday 4 February from 7pm. I think they're letting me do something like 2 x 20 minute spots.

Sorry if this is stuff you don't want!

Kind regards, Chloë.

UK National Storytelling Week 2016 runs Saturday 30 January to Saturday 6 February. A few days either side of the official week also sneak under the NSW banner.

http://www.sfs.org.uk/national-storytelling-week

The UK Society for Storytelling is a not for profit, non promoting, mostly non professional organisation. It does not organise or fund NSW events. The website provides a listing of storytelling activities throughout the UK, details submitted by individual organisers. There's also a page noting the dates of each year's NSW.

Media largely disregard storytelling except as children's entertainment.

Kind regards, Chloë.

Hi, Lois. This is George Williams ("Old Father William"). It's been a long time since I've been able to check in with PS... It seems likes it's really...slow. Anything happening that you know of? I'd like to reconnect with a storytelling board. If this isn't it, can you recommend one? Thanks...and Merry HannuChristKwnazaNess. <g>

Thank you Lois! Indeed the saying has done a great harm, by putting the total of the Greek oral culture in the same basket...but anyway, I am here now, at your service! I am now preparing a new performance with tales of the wine! Hopefully I will have a small video to upload....it will be in Greek though.:)

kisses, Maria
