Professional Storyteller is a network for people who work in the field of oral storytelling. Please write a brief paragraph about your work.
This experience of working with young children inspired the development of my storytelling skills, as I discovered how quickly a child’s imagination can be captivated by the intimacy of storytelling . This lead me to sharing folk tales and self authored stories with young children and adults at festivals, outdoor events, libraries, museums, galleries, bookshops, cafes, schools, preschools, and child care centres, along with providing workshops on storytelling with children for nearly 20 years. In 2010, I completed a Phd titled - "Young children's active citizenship: Storytelling, stories and social actions" that investigated how the sharing of stories that raise social justice issues can motivate young children's active citizenship to redress the injustices. Currently, I am a full time academic in early childhood and literacy education.

You're among others who share your realization of the value of storytelling in working with children. You're even among many Australians as there's a group of "Storytellers in Australia" as well as others like Jenni Cargill-Strong who has been adding to the more than 1800 international members here. While looking at groups, you might also feel at home with the 2 dedicated to storytelling in education, there's also a large contingent who also write. So prowl around the site & enjoy the networking.
