Dear Lynn,
Hi! I'm finally getting back to you. I wish I would have seen you when you were in Baltimore a few years back. I watched your videos - you are quite a riot! If you need a specific contact at the JCC here, I would contact Claudine Davidson - I think she deals with those kinds of programs. Let me know if you are coming - I would love to take you out to lunch! Tell me more about this Megillah newsletter - where can I find it on the web?
Take care,
Jennifer
Hey Lynn, my story partner and I as The Patchwork Players will be performing "Not Too Scary Stories" at the Pasadena Public Library on Saturday night the 29th at 7:30 at 285 E. Walnut Street. LA's a big place, so don't know if you'll be close to there....but that's where we'll be. Love to have you! Patti
Dear Lynn,
Thanks for writing to me. When were you in Baltimore? I'm sorry I missed you. What do you want to know about performing for other Jewish groups? My main venues are synagogues and religious schools, and sometimes Jewish organizations, Jewish camps, etc. I will be happy to give you more information! I hope you had a delightful Purim!
Take care,
Jennifer
Please post your experiences at the Edinburgh fringe on the fringe group. I'm interested in your experiences before hand, also, (application, how the fringe helps performers, etc.)
I'd also love to hear what sort of show you are doing at the Edinburgh fringe.
I've not yet done a video, but I suggest you contact friend Buck P Creacy of this site and ask him -
Go to the VIDEO page on the site and drop a line to all those folks who have produced/performed/promoted videos, and they will be more than happy to steer you in the right direction.
Wish I could be more helpful, but I've yet to create my first video.
The Tejas Storytelling Assn. goes back just a notch over 20 years, and produces the Texas Storytelling Festival every Spring, in Denton, just up the road aways from Fort Worth.
Great people, wonderful programs, workshops, youth tellers, excellent featured tellers, Thurs. - Sun. An exciting, fun, inspirational and motivational time for tellers of all kinds.
They did not invite me to come tell - UNTIL I submitted an audio cassette tape sample of my work. Turns out they liked what they heard, so THEN they invited me. I had to submit a tape in order to take part in the Liars Contest.
So, it was that little tape, recorded on a portable recorder in my bedroom, that opened the door.
Some venues require a CD or DVD, but most will still accept audio cassettes.
They're not gonna invite you, if they've never heard you, right? So, make some 'audition tapes' that you can send to producers, along with your PR materials. At least that way you'll have a fighting chance.
Wow, you are busy, aren't you? I envy your being able to return to Edinburgh.
Right now I'm teaching high school theatre half-days for this semester.
Retired last summer, but went back to help out a buddy principal, and maybe round up a few 'extra' bucks.
Rest of the time I'm working on telling. April 10-13, TEXAS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL, Denton, TX - I've got a workshop on Characterization, and I'm one of the judges for the Liar's Contest, which I won last year.
Telling at schools, church, organizations, libraries from time to time, and, as always, striving to generate more work.
Stick with it, as you work to put together your program for this summer; you know it's worth it, and, eventually it WILL pay off for you.
