Dear Mara:

You are poetic in your view of life. As you shared the images, I could see, hear, smell, and taste them. I can imagine that your storytelling is much the same way.

Will you be adding videos or sound bites of your stories?

You also have some fascinating photos. Are they one of your ways of exploring and creating stories?

Until we tell again,

Rachel Hedman

Welcome Mara!
Just saw an email from Tom addressed to the rest of the Biblical Storytelling group. He addressed as "All Saints."

Tom, I'm going to have copy & send this your way to let you know what crazy reminders that produced.

I was born on Nov. 2. In the Catholic Church Nov. 1 is All Saints Day. Nov. 2 is All Souls Day, some even called it Poor Souls Day as it's for those not quite ready to get into heaven. Kinda reminds me of St. Paul talking about how to die is gain (heaven), but also to live & do what he is expected to do is gain, too. What a great way to accept whatever God has planned for us on our life's journey.

Then there's a great old preacher who's gone to his final reward named J.Vernon McGee who used to say there are Saints & Ain'ts. Sometimes when I get to thinking I'm not all that saintly, I think about those Ain'ts & breathe a & thank God I'm not an Ain't either. Since you, too, Mara, have a strong streak of the child in you, just remember what happens to Ain'ts on a sidewalk. . . they get squished!

It's good that Lynne helped you find not only PS & the Biblical Storytelling group, but especially your story & storytelling.

Your post on blessings has already caught my eye, so may blessings come to you, too.

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a child's dream and a grown-up who plays & thinks outside of the sandbox. A strong sense of spirit tempered with a great sense of humor keep me going in this world so often hidden in the darkness. I believe everyone has a light or a spark--- a genius within and a light bulb of some sort over his head. I’m inspired by the quote about how 'all the darkness in the world can't extinguish a single, burning flame'...that's me.

The terrain of the heart has many landscapes and they all relay a unique story of weathering the elements. Music is essential to me, as is kitchen play and simmering pots of poetic substance. Music is everywhere, if you're listening... in conversational tones, daily paths that ring of familiar surprises and chords of joyous or bittersweet remembrances or ancient echoes, giggling, daily rhythms that create lyrical moves and grooves...

MUSIC mirrors the soul of humanity... I'm grateful for the rhythms and vibrations that compose me, and seek harmonious patterns and tones. Natural settings are most sensuous to me, awakening and awareness that transports me from drones of daily living… delighting in cows in the snow, a spider spinning a web, a bird building a nest, making cookies... the scent of cedar and pine & sunshine...the birth of an idea... a world animated... LIFE IS A RIVER... always moving & renewing us... I imagine that we are amplification systems in a Universe of sound. Light is Life and Soul is Sound. Turn it on and turn it up!

HOW I GOT HERE...A STORY IS A MAPPING TOOL

My friend, Lynne, who invited me to join this wonderful site, has been a STORYBOOK friend in my life for decades. When we met, she lived in a lopsided house and I'd come from a broken home (like most of us! lol!) She had 2 tiny children and I had a newly hatched, china babydoll. Our families began to grow together and our houses became upright and happy ones. One year we both had baby boys, who grew up as very best friends (now they are 28 and live across the street from each other). As the years went by and the pages were turned, families grew, jobs & careers became a series of campfires, relationships journeyed and I moved great distances, she remained the steadfast soldier of guarding our stories and translating new ones in ways that inspired me to continue with the page-turning. From the very beginning, she told me stories about me that I'd never heard before, so really, she has always helped me to develop my authentic character. And isn't that the substance of good storytelling? The development of authentic characters? Today we have to laugh, because the quest, for both of us, has always been about HOME and knowing that we each have a place in this world, and now we are both REALTORS! There is tremendous power and healing in the fact that SOMEONE knows how to read--- and tell, your story.

THE NAKED SOUL OF STORYTELLING - Seeing Through A Glass Darkly

A Native American once told me that clouds reflect the soul of the river. One-sided images of everyday life barely, rarely, reflect what is true, because TRUTH is TRANSPARENT and, day-to-day, we tend to see through a glass darkly...the images we take in have a way of impr… Continue

ANGEL MESSAGES

An out-of-town prospect contacted me , asking if I could reserve some time on a Friday afternoon to show her some properties. A few days before her trip here, we set a time & I asked if she would meet at the office. She was car-less (her husband would be using it), so she… Continue

happy bEARTHday LYNNE!

hello again, my sweet friend...TODAY IS A bEARTHday FOR YOU, so time for a party! You have arrived!

In the immortal words of Henry Miller, "One's destination is not a place, but rather a new way of looking at things."

MEthinks it tis our human habit to look backwards and forwards, but tis our spiritual nature to look upwards... only then do we begin to realize our true destination. So, looking up from our laundry baskets and lines of fresh linens and tributes to washerwomen, here is to all thi… Continue
