Profile Information

About Me:
Professional storyteller since the late eighties, performing in many countries, from Iran to Canada and from Greece to Norway .
I also have background as an artist, making murals, illustrations
etc, and as a writer with a number of books through the years.

My company Fabula is running large projects like Fabula Storytelling Festival. We are situated in Stockholm, but perform and do educations all over Scandinavia.

Im quite engaged in building structures for storytelling, like the Swedish organization Berattarnatet Sverige. Another project concerns shaping The House of Storytelling. This will take a few years I expect.

At the present Im spending quite some time on networking and preparing for Fedderation for European Storytelling (FEST) which will be established in August 2008.

Opening gala on the Storytelling Centre in Sandnes, Norway 2007

At "Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival" in Wales 2004 I made sketches during different performances, and put the images into this mural while the festival was going on. The sections of the painting can be switched around, and they still fit in with one another.

The Ljungby storytelling festival asked me to make a 20 meters long mural 1996 along a street in the city. For many years it served as a stage during the annual festival

HI Mats,
I was very interested to read about your project on the Applied Storytelling group.
It intersects with the interviews and research i've done and stories i've told of Mennonites who suffered and survived the Stalin purges of the 30s.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hello Mats! This is the third time I've left a comment because they don't seem to be getting through. I blame the trolls.

I was great to see you the other night too. Shame we couldn't talk longer, because after I'd heard you tell, I had so many things I wanted to ask. Never mind. Another time, another place...

Good luck - and better health!

lots of love

Hi Mats,
I love your murals. I have been making story quilt squares and hope to put them together as a storytelling backdrop. I also appreciate your WSD logo and look forward to using it toward our days of Neighbourly stories. Did you also write the poem We Wander that we learned for our 2007 WSD events? I ahve been searching for that wise poet. Here is the beginning:
We wander
from word to word,
from emotion to emotion
head to soul and tale to tale
in wonder
before the simple
every day magic
the story shares...

I would love to attend the Fabula Storytelling Festival, Mats, if only I was able. What a great international group of artists.

Oh well. At least the Canadian teller is Ukrainian :-D
I can be proud of that.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. I'm very impressed by the organizing work this must be taking.
