I heard a rabbi speak today about the importance of spiritual communities in seeing to the health of our planet. For some time, I have been interested in Jewish stories that highlight the need to care for and respect the Earth we live on. When Rabbi Troster spoke about "environmental justice," I decided I need to use my storytelling to raise awareness about the many areas of environmental justice. Anyone have ideas for stories beyond "Honi and the Carob Tree?' I'm especially, but not exclusively…

I'm delighted that you've joined the Jewish Storytelling group. Are you still looking for 'tikkun olam' stories? I could probably suggest a few.

I was scanning the posts on Storytelling in Education & read your question about "This school is hiring me to do a full day program for 3,4,and 5 grades. I'll be doing stories related to Earth Day and incorporating some interactive storytelling activities into each group's session. Any ideas about developing this program would certainly be appreciated."
Maybe there's a need for a group here on finding stories. This is the sort of thing that happens all the time on the Storytell email list. A website that has collected many suggested stories, songs, etc. from Storytell is Jackie Baldwin's website SOS section . I also have a section on my website Audience Participation with suggestions & links for interactive ideas.
I'm sorry I didn't see your request in time, but the concepts are good for future programs.
Of course, I remember you well. Thanks so much for getting in touch with me. I would really enjoy working with you and the writing project if the group is interested. Also, many thanks for reading my book. I hope to see you again.
Sincerely,
Susan Danoff
That would be terrific if you can come...See you there!
See you at the conference this summer?
Nice to hear from you. Sorry you missed Riverway, but I understand. The way Passover fell was unfortunate this year in terms of the festival, but what can ya do...
We're slamming along here. The weekend after Riverway we were in the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, so we were out there for about 5 days. It was a fun one, if quite busy, and our hotel was right across the street from the St. Louis Arch, with a view of it out our window, so that was pretty cool.
Now our project is actually Zachary support for the next couple of weeks, as he got cast in the lead role in a production of 'Oliver' in the Berkshires. His opening night is this coming Friday and it runs two weekends, so we're making sure he gets enough sleep and is fully prepared for the experience. We're just about to record another cd...number 8!...which we hope to have ready for release at Falcon Ridge this year. Other than that, cranking along with the usual stuff. This summer we have on the docket to put together a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Snow Queen', which will probably be a whole show unto itself.
Hope we see you at Clearwater...
Welcome to the Youth, Educators, and Storytellers Alliance Group. We are transitioning from our listserv to here.
You mentioned the storytelling games found on the YES! site. Would you mind starting a discussion like what I did for the YES! Pre-Conference and call for articles? Focusing on games? Or whatever else you'd like to discuss?
Until we tell again,
Rachel Hedman
Hello! Of course I remember you. I'm so glad we are both on this site. I am doing well. Working part-time. Busy with my daughter - now three years old! How are you?
Take care,
Jennifer
