I think that is a GREAT idea! It really would get the audience involved with your story. I currently use it with some of my songs and even the littlest toddlers play along! Great fun! I also use what I call sign-mime with some of my stuff in case ...
There are many many wonderful places to get puppets from Folkmanis to MS Creations to Ebay. I personally love Folkmanis puppets for their beautiful, soft nature puppets and "Melissa and Doug" for their low priced, whimsical, kid friendly puppets w...
Greetings Ros!
I often use one character, one that I can talk to as a partner, maybe to teach a concept. The character is the comic relief, the one who makes all of the blunders and doesn't have to be on stage very long to make a huge impression. ...
Best wishes and have a wonderful funderful time!! I wish I could be there... Chicago has much to offer besides the conference! Will your family be attending? Be sure to take in the sights!
I am a teacher/storyteller from Laingsburg Michigan. I use a guitar to enhance the storytelling experience and work mainly in schools, libraries, and daycare centers. Adding puppets and props just adds to the fun! I love to use lots of audience participation to supercharge my performances for youngsters of all ages!!
My background includes degrees in child development and reading instruction, so I am very comfortable at literacy events, family nights, and anywhere kids are growing.
I would love for you to start a discussion in the YES! group on Professional Storyteller since you have such a wonderful conversation going about telling to 4-7-year-olds.
Could I count on you to do that? Then I will feel better to share my thoughts rather than the Comment section.
Hi Patricia--Welcome to the movement, etc. group. Let's help this group to grow by sharing our tricks of the trades, questions, and all else! We look forward to your input!
Patricia,
I have a background in teaching too! I am a puppeteer that incorporates songs into all of my shows (mini-musicals) my shows are really all about the participation and seems like we have a lot in common. I wish you weren't so far away I would love to see a show.

Hi Pam!
Sounds like your process might be making more progress than mine. I work full time as a kindergarten teacher and lately, that has taken up much of my time with spring projects and IEPC meetings. I have managed to record two tracks of guitar for a "back up" of a song for one part of my CD. I have fewer gigs planned for this summer than last summer, so that may also help with my time management and getting things done. It's all a matter of goal setting and proper planning. I just love this site, because reading what other people are doing really motivates me energizes me, and keeps me going when I might feel more like taking a nap!! Thanks for checking in on me. It's great to hear that you are also making step by step progress. Next time, I will check in on you:)
I just wondered how the CD process is coming for you? I go into the studio this coming Tuesday to record my first CD. I have worked very hard to get to this point - rehearsing, photo shoot, etc., etc., etc.... I can't wait to get it done.
Thanks for the warm greetings. Over the last few years since I took my part time telling to a full-time status - I have enjoyed corresponding and learning from new storytelling friends. I love this format where I don't have to worry about being spammed - where I can trust the individuals writing to me! I also like seeing the pictures - to help me get to know folks better when I attend national events.
