Drumming...oh yes, drumming...a voyage of notes, heartbeats and another world of shamans and smiles from different walks of folk. I have storytold with the drums, around a bonfire in the fall with the crispness of the night touching everytime I stepped from the warmth of the fire. It is a very special feeling to match words, heartbeat and story.

Hi Patti,
When I was in fifth grade, I was given a violin to play which would not stay tuned. I struggled with it for two years, then gave up. Maybe if I had a drum...
Nice site,
Marjorie

Patti, I really enjoyed your story about wanting to become a drummer.

My tale: on my own I was able to borrow the one and only flute in my high school. I was a less than keen clarinet student at the time. That flute was a terrible instrument, but enough to plant a seed that would grow and last many years.

This year I re-learned the doumbek (Middle Eastern drum) and played it in a stage version of a novel by an Iranian author. That spurred an interest in playing bongo drums, of all things, which I have taken up with great enthusiasm.

Perhaps, someday our tales will cross, and we can thump a drum or or two together.

Howdy Patti,

I look foreward to seeing you again soon, too. Is James all better? I know he's been out of the hospital awhile.

Great page! I love the content, arrangement, and colors. So your Dad is still active doing chaplain work; that's fantastic. I just finished a six week biblical storytelling class with 15 students. It was energizing and I enjoyed listening to their stories and learning from them as well. -- Frank

Hi Patti, I don't know where we met. Can you refresh my memory? I'm embarrassed to ask, but am racking my brain as to how we know each other. Your Page looks like someone I'd like to know very much. Mimi Rockwell

I always wanted to be a drummer....

When I was in fifth grade, it was the time when you could sign up to be part of the band. I went to the meeting all prepared to say "I want to be a drummer." However, when Mr. Stetz, the band teacher got out the instruments and introduced what our choices were, he didn't mention drums… Continue
