A One Woman Puppet company specializing in Puppet Shows,
Storytelling and Consulting.
Penny Walter has her Masters in Early childhood Education. Her
Master Thesis was on "Teaching with Puppets". She taught primary
grades in the Portland, Oregon area schools for three years before following her dream of becoming a full time puppeteer and storyteller.
Penny's Puppet shows, utilize audience participation, and instill the love of music, language and stimulate the imagination. They naturally support emotional development, improve listening skills, and develop awareness and appreciation of the similarities of all people (and puppets).
From September 2002- June 2006 she was the Resident Puppeteer at the Portland Children's Museum and performed there Eight times a week. She has a ongoing relationship with the Portland Public School district and head start programs as well as other area schools and libraries and is an Artist in Health care performer at Emanual Childrens Hospital. In Addition she performs at: Birthday parties, Festivals and private events, Corporate gatherings and fund raisers.
Penny teaches Puppetry classes and workshops for teachers, children, families and other professional groups .
As a performer I am involved and various other projects that sometimes include puppets and sometimes not.
These other projects range in age appropriateness from working with toddlers to working in retirement communities, to performing an evening show in a grownup setting.
All of my projects involve story and the importance of connecting and sharing our commonalities as humans. Stories connect us and everyone has a life story to tell and a need to share our living life story.

This week I am working every day at Arts for All, a wonderful organization here in Tucson for special needs kids. I'm having a great time, and the summer campers range in age from 5 to 17. Best of all, this organization stresses art and involves the kids in creative activities at every level. It is a joy to be in this atmosphere!
I am not what one would call a puppeteer in the pure sense as I do not work with a stage. I never do a show without a puppet, however, as I consider them my "partners." Long ago, I used stages, props, etc. but got away from all that as my storytelling developed. Now, I am a storyteller who uses puppets and a bit of magic in my shows (the magic comes from a time when I was a clown - another life - and I needed magic as part of my act). So there you are.
I grew up in Portland and often dream about coming back, particularly when the temperatures here in Tucson stay above 100 for days and days. . . .
