About Me:
Ever since a sophomore in high school, the stage has beckoned Rachel Hedman. Although her mother said Rachel was a storyteller as soon as she opened her mouth, Rachel considered herself a shy person.

Rachel has progressed since her National Forensics League days in 1994 when her first telling had a scrambled plot, mixed-up voices, and a forgotten ending. Upon this failure she wondered if she should continue, but she decided to prove to herself that she was a great storyteller. By senior year, she received 5th place at the Wisconsin State Tournament.

When Rachel entered college, she saw storytelling as a possible career and she chose her major accordingly: Communications Marketing.

Although she graduated from college in 2001, the BYU Storytelling Club she jumpstarted still provides service throughout the campus and the community. Upon moving to Fresno, California she joined the Voices of the Valley Storytelling Guild, and thus provided the opportunity to assist as a Board Member of the National Youth Storytelling Olympics. Eventually, she was invited on the Board for the Youth Storytelling Special Interest Group and spearheaded the creation of the storytelling merit badge for the Boy Scouts of America. To add to the merit badge venture, she became Co-Chair for Youth, Educators, and Storytellers Alliance (YES!).

Receiving Rate vs. "Starving Artist" Syndrome--posted by Rachel Hedman

Sweat trickles or teeth clatter for some professional storytellers when they are asked, “How much do you charge?” Either the traditional path of the “starving artist” could be taken or the more self-respecting road of the financially independent. Ways to Combat “Starving Artist” S… Continue

(or rejoin?) YES.
There were some kick butt student tellers at AlbanyRiverway festival last month. I am still working at a school and running myself ragged. How was KiddieLit conference in Utah? Sometimes spoken word peeps get a look down the nose and " who do you think you are" response from authors - oy! where do they think literature came from? *sigh*
well gtg
coffee break is over - back on me head ( do you know that joke?)
all the best,
