Kevin, Since the local dialect is difficult, I can understand why you don't speak it. When I was 20 years old I spent a month studying Spanish in Salamanca and came away with a decent ability to speak Castillian. Of course, I had several years of ...

Hey Penelope. Holidays are great aren't they? I have lived in Spain for just over 4 years and I am ashamed to say that my spanish is not too good, even though I live in a very Spanish area. My partner is fluent and he does the talking!! hee hee. I...

Kevin, I assume you speak fluent spanish since you live in Spain. Do you also tell stories in Spanish?

Penelope, I left work the day we were writing back and forth and managed to stay away and offline for the holiday weekend. Yeah! So, to answer your question, I live in Johnson City, TN - right next door to Jonesborough, home of the National Story...

Yes, we too try to live an ordinary life which illustrates to the "uneducated" that we are just like anyone else. But I do count myself lucky on the fact that I live in a place in my life where I can do this....both physically and emotionally. Not...

Breaking Away

Here it is March already. Wow!!! Time sure does fly. So far this year, I have only done one show--a storytelling and magic show at the Wundergroud West magic Store in Garden City, Michigan. A few months ago, I decided to add magic to my stories or just add another type of performance-related things to my repertoire. I have been bitten by the magic bug and have spent a lot of time and money on purchasing new illusions and training DVDs and taking classes. I created a character for my magic shows-… Continue

Here's to a healthy and happy New Year

I can't believe that 2008 is almost over. Where does the time fly when you're busily living your life? This coming February I turn 50. I hope things get better for me next year. More work would be nice. I don't mind traveling. In February I will travel to Florida to stay with a friend while I look for a potential job. I have pretty much had it with Michigan, but I don't know if Florida is the answer. After all, it's a very Conservative state and I am anything but Conservative. Early this morning… Continue

Chicago area storytellers

A big hello to all of my friends in the Chicago area. I hope you are all well and enjoying this holiday season with friends and family. I have a question for those of you in the Chicago area. Does anyone know the contact name for the Art Institute in Chicago who hires professional storytellers? I am interested in traveling to Chicago to branch out to nearby States and cities. Chicago is a great city and I would appreciate anyone's help in coming to Chicago to do some storytelling. if you have an… Continue

Christmas is Coiming...The Goose is Getting fat... PLEASE Put A Penny in This Old Man's Hat

Christmas is coming and I don't have any gigs lined up this year. Money is very tight in the States right now. I may be working in Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the rest of the holiday season selling magic kits from kiosk. It's money AND something I have recently developed an interest in--magic. While waiting for the holiday season to end, I am working on a Medieval/Renaissance program of stories which I can then market to Renaissance Festivals around the country. After all, I am wil… Continue

Tellabration 2008

I can't believe it's November already! This year has simply flown by so quickly. A lot of great things have happened to me this year. I was very busy this Halloween season--five shows!!! Halloween is my favorite time of year and I was glad to add to the scary story pool this year. Also, this year I finally got to meet my friend Carrie Sue Ayvar from Florida. While staying at her house prior to going to Florida Story Camp, she told me a couple of wonderful King Solomon stories--one of which I wil… Continue

Hi there. Andalucia is a wonderful place if you can get out here. The spring months are the best.....April May june.....the weather is lovely and the countryside is awash with wild flowers. Nor been to Seville but I would suggest Malaga, Cordoba and Granada but there are plenty of other wonderful places to discover. Aim to spend quality time here, it is worth it.
Saying that, I am planning to go back to live in the UK for a few years!!
Adios mi amigo.

Hello Rob, Thanks for your pronunciation comment on 'Celtic Storytellers' . The following website might be useful as a start. http://www.mythome.org/celticnames.html
I'll put a few more links on the page as I am sure there are others who have difficulties with Celtic pronunications and might find some guides useful.

All the best

Thanks for the advice. I know I for one tend to "look down" on my performances of any kind. I never even thought how about how that could be negative to the listeners (DUH Glen!).

Hi Rob! I'm new to this site, so I'm not fully sure how it works yet. I hope you can make it to Northlands. It's always a great conference. It would be wonderful to meet you at long last and have a mythchat over some tea!

Rob,
It was great to see you at the NSN conference. One of the downpoints of the conference was too many wonderful people and not enough time. I'm glad we were able to touch bases and I look forward to a time where we can talk over coffee and ignore the clock. Rivka

Greetings, Rob. In reading your profile, I see that you wrote: "I also write my own performance pieces focusing on politics and gender issues." Won't you consider joining the group Applied Storytelling: the Power of Story. I know we could learn and benefit from your knowlwedge and experience as you participate in the discussions. It would especailly be great for you to add topics of your own. Thanks for considering it. All the best to you! STEVE

You may never really explore your home state until after you leave it. It's been that way with me. Never the less-there is always something special about home-no matter how deep the snow or hot the sun.

I'm including the Louie story in my show LABOR DAZE debuting at the Orlando Fringe May 2008 and Capital Fringe July 2008. (And my Louie story is a lighter tale.)
