Rob McCabe becomes a Recipient of the MaTilDa Award from Oakland University

I am thrilled and honored to let all of my friends and colleagues in the Theatre and Storytelling Communities, that I was awarded the MaTilDa Award from my Alma Mater, Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan. What follows below is a copy of my acceptance speech which will be read for me by a good friend of mine who actually was one of the people who recommended me for the award. The MaTilDa Award is awarded annually for people who are graduates of the Oakland University Department of… Continue

Breaking Away

Here it is March already. Wow!!! Time sure does fly. So far this year, I have only done one show--a storytelling and magic show at the Wundergroud West magic Store in Garden City, Michigan. A few months ago, I decided to add magic to my stories or just add another type of performance-related things to my repertoire. I have been bitten by the magic bug and have spent a lot of time and money on purchasing new illusions and training DVDs and taking classes. I created a character for my magic… Continue

Here's to a healthy and happy New Year

I can't believe that 2008 is almost over. Where does the time fly when you're busily living your life? This coming February I turn 50. I hope things get better for me next year. More work would be nice. I don't mind traveling. In February I will travel to Florida to stay with a friend while I look for a potential job. I have pretty much had it with Michigan, but I don't know if Florida is the answer. After all, it's a very Conservative state and I am anything but Conservative. Early this… Continue

Chicago area storytellers

A big hello to all of my friends in the Chicago area. I hope you are all well and enjoying this holiday season with friends and family. I have a question for those of you in the Chicago area. Does anyone know the contact name for the Art Institute in Chicago who hires professional storytellers? I am interested in traveling to Chicago to branch out to nearby States and cities. Chicago is a great city and I would appreciate anyone's help in coming to Chicago to do some storytelling. if you have… Continue

Christmas is Coiming...The Goose is Getting fat... PLEASE Put A Penny in This Old Man's Hat

Christmas is coming and I don't have any gigs lined up this year. Money is very tight in the States right now. I may be working in Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the rest of the holiday season selling magic kits from kiosk. It's money AND something I have recently developed an interest in--magic. While waiting for the holiday season to end, I am working on a Medieval/Renaissance program of stories which I can then market to Renaissance Festivals around the country. After all, I am… Continue

Happy Birthday, Rob!

I know storytelling has received less of your attention lately, but hope all is going well in FL.  You still have Dearborn on your location, I see, so maybe that means you'll at least visit here occasionally.  If so, please give me a Heads Up and maybe we can get together.  Here or there, I hope today goes exactly as you want your special day to go!!

Me again.
Just looked once again at your photos. Loved the woodland scenes. There's 1 of a stream that looks exactly like a painting I fell in love with & wish there were reprints available. It was from a traveling exhibit that came to the Detroit Institute of Arts. I wrote the museum that loaned it & was told no reprints had been made. Guess I'll have to ask you to send me a copy. If that's not possible, I'll have to settle for a pilgrimage here, but I'd really love to reprint it.
Thanks for posting it.

Hey my friend!
In looking you up I just noticed your profile still lists you as here in Dearborn, MI. Dunno if that means you're not ready to completely make the break or not.
There has been a recent influx of Floridians on Professional Storyteller. You might try looking at my comments in the Forum & then try a pair of searches to help you find contacts in your new home area.
Blessings & the best of good wishes to you!!!

Hi there. Andalucia is a wonderful place if you can get out here. The spring months are the best.....April May june.....the weather is lovely and the countryside is awash with wild flowers. Nor been to Seville but I would suggest Malaga, Cordoba and Granada but there are plenty of other wonderful places to discover. Aim to spend quality time here, it is worth it.
Saying that, I am planning to go back to live in the UK for a few years!!
Adios mi amigo.

Hello Rob, Thanks for your pronunciation comment on 'Celtic Storytellers' . The following website might be useful as a start.
I'll put a few more links on the page as I am sure there are others who have difficulties with Celtic pronunications and might find some guides useful.

All the best

Thanks for the advice. I know I for one tend to "look down" on my performances of any kind. I never even thought how about how that could be negative to the listeners (DUH Glen!).

Hi Rob! I'm new to this site, so I'm not fully sure how it works yet. I hope you can make it to Northlands. It's always a great conference. It would be wonderful to meet you at long last and have a mythchat over some tea!

It was great to see you at the NSN conference. One of the downpoints of the conference was too many wonderful people and not enough time. I'm glad we were able to touch bases and I look forward to a time where we can talk over coffee and ignore the clock. Rivka
