Travels worldwide with workshops, classes, performances and key-note speeches. Author of several books on storytelling techniques. Enjoys incorporating origami and string into performances.
Your work is fascinating. I'm especially interested in The Golden Axe. I collect Ukrainian folk tales. I found our version of Cinderella, which interweaves with the Persephone myth. Cinderella goes "below," and must wrestle with Grandmother Snow for her destiny. The Persephone flavor makes sense in view of the fact the Greeks took Ukrainians as slaves for several hundred years. And no whimsical gifting by fairy godmoms here. The theme of having to work hard for everything is so Ukrainian.
It's interesting, the manner in which tales make their way around the world. I will look for your book. I can't imagine the stamina it takes to harvest over 30 versions of a tale, and am looking forward to reading it.
