Hey Loren,
Can't make it to Minneapolis right now, but look forward to hearing about it - photos, video? Break whatever's necessary and have a good show.
Steven
Monologist and storyteller, Steven Henegar, celebrates the wonderful variety of stories that we use to share our lives. Every audience will recognize this familiar art of the spoken word as Steven calls up the everyday and the fantastic to discover feelings and experiences that connect us all – Truth & Lies for all occasions.
"He brings fine details to life in his stories and his timing is excellent--especially his comic timing.”
Willis, Highpoint Theater, NC
Solo performances of interlocking stories juggle vital original and traditional narrative, wrapping evocative language around wry observation, movement and song. Steven blends his family’s conversational storytelling with the precision and movement drawn from a decade in theater as an actor, writer and director.
"Audience members. . .sat mesmerized." Cummins, Knoxville News-Sentinel, KY
"Listeners were spellbound. . .he took them back to their own struggle to understand how death took people away."
(On Embarrassment & Death) Feinerman, Independent Journal, Marin, CA
Steven has performed and led workshops over twenty years for adults, children and the curious combination of the two called families. He served as artist-in-residence for colleges through the prestigious North Carolina Visiting Artist Program as well as working with the Washington State Cultural Enrichment, the North Carolina Mountain Arts, and the South Carolina Arts in Education programs. He formerly directed the storytelling program for Stagebridge, America’s longest running senior theater company in Oakland, CA.
“Steven Henegar brings a wealth of knowledge about successful storytelling techniques to his presentations. My K-12 teachers thoroughly enjoyed his Mid-western ‘down home’ style and his practical tips for incorporating storytelling into their curriculum.
Dr. A. M. Rocca, Former Director
North State History/Social Science Project, CA
"They want to know if you can stay with them the remainder of the year. I truly have not received one negative comment, but hundreds of very positive ones about your interaction, organization, excellent skills at storytelling, and the way you are able to get the children not only involved but excited!"
Haywood County Arts Council, NC
Hey Rick,
It was good to see you at the Arts Northwest Conference in Eugene. Sorry I missed you're original inquiry, but glad to hear they let you in anyway. Keep me up on your new show coming up. Good luck with that.
I ended up meeting quite a few new people as well as old friends, and that's in part what it's all about. Hoping it will eventually facilitate the selling of myself and my work in that area. Whew. Makes you a little jumpy though. Not any more solo theater folk in the showcases on Wednesday, mostly music. Along with a fine young string quartet, there was this great saxaphone quartet, and a west coast group called Three Legged Torso (I didn't ask) that might be discribed as gypsy/jazz/new music fusion, which just blew me away.
Take care,
Steven
hey Steven-
saw that you're going to be in Eugene (you must be there by now, i suppose). I didn't realize that you have to be with a group- i was just gonna come down for the day on Tues. Any chance i could sign up w/ you? I can help man the booth....!
Steve, I did take a workshop with you at Dominican College years ago, and recently worked on the BASF, Bay Area Storytelling Festival, I was the publicity chairperson. Wish you the best in your storytelling. The folks at BASF do like you and all you do for them. See there next May 2009.
hi Steven-
just wanted to say 'hi' and thanks for all that you did to make the BASF happen! Everything was so professional and a ton of fun. hope to see you soon-
rick
Hey Steven,
No, sorry to say I will not be attending the NSN Conference. We are planning to visit Jim's mom who lives in South Dakota in early August. I know I'll miss some great workshops. I saw that you were leading one also.
Hello Steven!
I am so excited to find you on this storytellers' networking site! How long has it been...maybe 18 or 20 years since you led our group of storytellers in Greensboro, NC? NC has a storytelling Guild now - we just celebrated our 10th anniversary in March 2008.
I hope our paths cross again!
God bless, Sylvia Payne
recap: 1. I was kidding - apologize for not being clear
2. did not understand that postcard was promo for performance
(didn't catch "Solo by Steven.....")
"captions": not showing on your PAGE, but go to your Photos page and you have what I now see are notes to yourself re pics:
Henegar - informal crop
Henegar - bending
Sierra - standing, crop
etc.
I can live with the other pics and their slightly 'twisted' captions, but, the shot of the young Scout (a fine, heroic pose, btw!) and the reference to O & H requires a much fuller comment/explanation/rationale/defense/justification, etc., would you not agree?
Thanking you in advance - not only for myself, but for the many, many others who will see this somehow disturbing image, and respond as I have, and, likewise long for your further comment -
