Hello, Laura. I've heard you tell at the Jonesborough Storytelling Festival and appreciated your flexibility in your breadth of stories and when you join in with others' tales as well. Thank you for sharing yourself and your art.
Woud you have any advice for someone just coming to this community?

I am here for the month. not traveling until I leave for Winnipeg where i perform and teach the last two weeks of august. trying to write .. finding it very challenging. love L
Hi, Laura,
It sounds like you are again rushing out doors, off to more work. I hope it is good. I am missing the Philo retreat and thinking so much of you and all our friends who have gathered there.
Let me know how the retreat goes. We need to meet somewhere some time.
Margaret
I am rushing out the door, but I am working on too many books at the same time at the moment. But let me think about which you might fall in love with and I will send something to you. Laura
What a joy to see your photograph. And always lovely to have your inspiring response. After the Rocky Mountain Storytelling Conference (a sheer delight) I went to Oracle, Arizona for two days of the Next Generation Project with Terry Tempest Williams where I am the storytelling and meditation mentor in a two year project with young environmentalists. Another great exploration of the importance of genuine story and the patience and embodied presence of authentic voice. xxx
I can't agree with you more about the need for authenticity in storytelling, and how important the role of the narrator is as a person separate telling the story and not living the story. But easy to dissolve the wall? It takes a lot of attention and a lot of practice. You saw me struggle at your workshops at Philo! But I am grateful for the learning.
Warmly,
Margaret
weeks of events still unfolding. too much traveling, but I am amazed that I can hold up. I am discovering that there is a lot of development in storytelling and still some old obstacles: we have so much to learn about the role of the storyteller during the telling.. that seems to hold astonishingly great tellers from opening completely to their audiences. I can see it so blatantly lately. And feel the love and devotion pouring forth while there is a wall.. so easly to dissolve that wall. I am dreaming of time in the fall to write a book. A publisher is interested. It really makes me frustrated to not have time (since in the end, i need some sleep) and happy because it feels close to reality. I send love to all from the lovely storytelling conference in Denver where I have had deep conversations.. so nurturing to be with other tellers. . laura
I just returned from a seven day three city whirlwind.. all wonderful. I had the pleasure (and challenge) of giving the keynote address for Keene State in NH.. on story and compassionate action. and a workshop on the same topic at the Dalai Lama's conference SEEDS OF COMPASSION in Seattle. Topping off a rich few days in Winnipeg with a student of mine whose project with refugee teenagers has gained amazing acclaim in the school systems. i am ever grateful... Laura
in love with storytelling since 1979... my son calls that "the olden days" but to me it is a short time to unfathom the joy and potency of what we bring to our audiences. I have found delight in becoming a mentor .. and in the last five years have thoroughly savored creating projects worldwide using storytelling for healing, transformation, renewal and conpassion. combining traditional epic and fairytale with personal narrative to reveal the mythic of our lives has been my path most recently. But I never abandon and always deepen performances with young people - conjuring ways for them to tell stories.. and writing. I am working with environmentalists, educators and peace makers. and still learning. such good fortune .. and I love our community .. marked by generosity and goodness.
