There are many of us here who are part of that folk scene, both in the U.K. and around the world. May the more than 1800 international members give you plenty of opportunity to network.
I'm an assistant admin. here and so I like to not only welcome new members, but also point out easily overlooked features here. I find the search box at the top of each page so useful (e.g. look for Shropshire or a favorite topic and see how much comes up), but there's also opportunities to promote yourself here with blogs, event posting, photos, & videos. This site is open to the entire internet for viewing, it's only when someone wants to participate that membership is needed. Similarly you may view any of the groups, but I hope you'll want to speak out, too. At that point you must join the group. Many also join just to show their interest in a topic. That's fine, too. The Forum is a spot to ask for help or discuss topics of general interest not limited to any group.
Hope that explains how it works here. If you want any help or encouragement, it's always good to know who to ask. I don't know all the answers, but generally have a good idea how to get them for you. That reminds me, you may find the group, Professional Storyteller FAQ, or some of the Forum discussions of our founder, Dianne de Las Casas, will help you get started here.
