Looking Beyond

There's a need for social networking among the storytelling family beyond here. My own state of Michigan has seen paid opportunities for storytelling, its storytelling groups, & even our state's population decline. While a Group could easily be started here (international groups are very active here), not everyone loving storytelling in Michigan feels comfortable on a network aimed at the "Professional Storyteller" even though this network welcomes beginners to storytelling. For that reason… Continue

7-31-09 How Swine Flu Turns a Household Topsy Turvy - Dianne de Las Casas

Friends:

It is the Day After. The day after we found out our 19 year old daughter tested positive for swine flu. Life is so far from “normal.”

At 10:00 a.m. this morning, I donned my blue surgical mask from the doctor’s office and checked on Soleil. She was snuggled underneath her comforter, snoring slightly, probably due to the fact that she cannot breathe through her nose and has to breathe entirely through her mouth. I… Continue

Update on Dianne de Las Casas' Recovery; Monday, December 15, 2008

Friends:

It's been a week since my hysterectomy. I am happy to say the surgery was successful. I am home, in the recovery process. It hasn't been easy. The first few days were kind of foggy as I relied heavily on medication to get me through the pain. I get around okay but my body is out of whack - my systems don't function as they should. I am off the pain medication so I am much more coherent. I have good days and bad days, just as my doctor promised. I can't wait to get back to… Continue

"Top Book for Professional Storytellers: 'The Story Biz Handbook' by Dianne de Las Casas"--posted by Rachel Hedman

One book was left and I lunged for it. A lady took it before I could grasp it. Perhaps when the lady saw my disappointment, she offered the book to me and I shyly yet happily took it to the cashier in charge of the 2005 National Storytelling Conference bookstore.

The lady may have been Linda Gorham, the same woman who wrote the foreword to the 2005 edition of a book called The Story Biz… Continue

Hurricane Gustav Recovery - 9-7-08 - Dianne de Las Casas

Friends:

Today was our first full day at home since we evacuated from Gustav on August 30. The first good news I heard was that sewerage services in Jefferson Parish Westbank were restored. I was able to spend much of the day cleaning (you need water to clean!) - scrubbing down the refrigerator and freezer (we lost all of our food) as well as cleaning the rest of the kitchen - the microwave, the stove, and organizing the pantry. Here is a picture of our fridge now. It looks brand… Continue
