National Storytelling Festival Wrap Up, Interweb Style

Another year, another National Storytelling Festival come and gone.

Me? I didn't make the trek to Jonesborough, Tennessee, this year. Instead, I chose to follow the Festival vicariously on Twitter.

How did that go?

Find out for yourself:

And this week,… Continue

The Weber State Storytelling Festival, WOW.

I just spent a day in the presents of Greatness. I was lucky enough to tell at the Weber State Storytelling Festival. This festival is a little different then most I have been to. It takes place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and young folks are bused in from elementary and junior high schools from all over the region to hear local, regional, treasured and national storytellers. There is also a Bilingual Voices section. In addition to the kids coming to the storytellers, storytellers are… Continue

FFHL Blog--"Trek (2 of 7): Meeting Professor of a Like-Mind"--posted by Rachel Hedman

When I introduce myself as a professional storyteller, usually I must explain what I mean by "storytelling".

Then you meet rare individuals who know exactly what you are talking about like David C. Dollahite, Brigham Young University… Continue

Brigadoon Reborn Ch. 3f: Cool Down (Layne Gneiting)

"Stop." My amble down the center of Main Street slowed considerably. "Stop." The impression hit me stronger. So I stopped. All weekend long these impressions had led me to new friends, and a journey into myself. "Look around." Did I have to stay in the middle of the street? There’s a bench right over there. I’ll just sit there and drink in this experience. "Stay here. If you move, you’ll lose the experience." Unwilling to offend this silent guide who had led… Continue

"Why does an audience need to hear about my life? Why on earth would they want to hear about little old me? I'm a classicist, Layne. I want to tell them a story, not a life sketch."

Forgive my own bits of self-indulgence. When re-reading these dissertation entries I've cringed, wondering… Continue

StoryMasters at the Orlando Kid's Fringe Festival

Well we made it through our first adventure into the fringe. When we arrived on Saturday morning for our first show there was nobody around but vendors. Theresa the Fringe kid's wrangler said to just skip this performance, see a show and do the 12:30 performance. So we went to see fellow Florida storyteller Bernie O'Brien with his show in the green section of the fringe. He was funny as always and he was finished by Noon so we had enough time to… Continue

Wow! What a whirlwind weekend. I just couldnt do just the festival but on Friday night started my weekend with a 15 minute show as part of the Tolland Senior Center Variety Show ( Ct. ). I was so impressed they had a large audience and using the new Tolland high school ,the stage, lights and sound system were all brand new and state of the art. What a treat! For my part I went on and was calm and focused and delivered my best performance to date! I did 3 stories in the 15 minutes I was hired… Continue
