Reisa Stone A Child's Quirky Christmas Wisdom

I was playing guitar and singing for a Lions Club Christmas party. Near the beginning of my concert, I preluded Little Drummer Boy by asking the kids what gifts they would have brought baby Jesus. "Game Boy." "A pony." "Hot Wheels!" Their answers came quickly. They interrupted each other in their excitement. Man, this was great. I was a hit. I reminded myself not to get a swelled head; I was just the warm up for Santa. One girl, about 8 years old, stood a tad apart from the crowd of kids… Continue

Mimi Rockwell Old Christmas, Jan. 6, Celebrated in Bristol, VA

Hello All - I've been gone for awhile due to several events and issues. The last I posted was in November, then devoted my time to publicity for our Old Christmas program and preparing for a vacation my husband, Rocky, and I were taking over Christmas. We returned the very end of Dec. and on New Year's Day Rocky came down with bronchitis. He is a cancer survivor of 4 years and has the chronic condition of COPD. He seemed to be recovering by Jan. 6, our Old Christmas celebration but chose not to… Continue

Storyteller Joe Paris Old Cajun Year-end Toast

Dear Fellow StoryLovers This time at the end of the year is often accompanied by a reflective look back AND a hopeful look forward. One year is dying and another is about to be born. To honor this time passage, Here's an Old Cajun Toast I heard from my Great Uncle Mose one year : May your coffin Be made of the finest wood From Century-old Cypress trees That I shall plant Tomorrow ! I love this toast because of its fierce misdirection. You start on the seemingly inappropri… Continue

Granny Sue A Christmas Story: The Jar of Rosemary

I found this story in an old collection of tales by Maud Lindsay called the Story-Teller. It's no longer under copyright, and might make a good addition to a Christmas program. It's a little on the sweet side, but counterbalance it with something funny or strange--or it might be useful for Sunday school classes. You can access the story by clicking here. . Leave a comment on my blog to let me know if you visi… Continue

Mimi Rockwell Directing and Nurturing A Storytelling Group, Post 2 - by Mimi Rockwell

[ Draft ] Beaver Creek Storytellers is in its 10th year, and we have settled into a routine of annual events in addition to our monthly venue at a downtown coffee shop, Java J's. In June around the summer solstice we present a program, Stories For A Mid-Summer's Night, in an outdoor venue. This year, as it was in 2007, it will be held in a city park close to downtown. There is a stage for the storytellers, and the audience sits on blankets or in lawnchairs under beautiful old trees. There is no… Continue
