Ramblings

I find it interesting what books I gravitate towards when I go to the local library, as I did today, with my son Vincent. Today I got four books – two were about queens of England around (but before) the Tudor period, and two were about true crime. Queens and crime. Hmmm. Must mean something.

At any rate, I have already decided that one of the true crime books is not to my liking so am left with three books. The one I have started reading is the remaining true crime books and I am… Continue

Storytelling in Business Podcast: The Elevator Speech is Dead

Episode Five: "The Elevator Speech is Dead"

Sean Buvala talks this week about the archaic concept of the elevator speech. The elevator speech: when you learn a singular "speech" to talk about your business with new clients and customers. Rather, Sean talks about learning the power of your story to be used in different time frames. Sean also tells you the obscure Grimm tale of "Not Much." You’ll also hear from a listener who called…

Storytelling conference call with Tim Tingle

Tonight I had the pleasure of listening to Brother Wolf's question and answer session with my friend, the amazing Storyteller Tim Tingle. Tim is well-versed in the art of telling Native American stories, folktales and true stories. I'm sure his listeners enjoyed his historical references and experiences with adapting stories from facts. His knowledge and training in the field of modern native storytelling with in a historical perspective is unsurpased.

His description of… Continue

World Wide List of Storytelling Courses

I took over maintaining the World Wide List of Storytelling Courses from Eric Miller when I was a student at ETSU. It is currently posted on my wiki page and on the SHE SIG wiki page (shesig.pbwiki.com). It is also on the NSN page under resources (minus the two courses I just added a few minutes ago). I have received a couple more courses to add just since joining this group. If you know of other courses in oral storytelling, please send me the information… Continue

IT'S A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE

I have had the incredible opportunity--- and challenges, of working the marketing side of a new development here. It is a "Village" idea. The first homes were completed in recent months, and more are beginning. The new elementary school, just down the brand new road, opens up in a few months. The City Parks teamed up with the University here and developed a beautiful, 10-acre, indoor outdoor tennis center center, also just down the new road from THE COTSWOLDS (the name for the VILLAGE.… Continue

Chronicling a Storytelling Residency - By Dianne de Las Casas

Friends:

If you are interested in the chronicles of a storytelling residency, you can visit The Story Connection Blog, where I blogged every day about my arts-in-education residency at a Louisiana school. The kids have been so enthralled with my visit that my website received so many hits, it has nearly exceeded its bandwidth! I've been averaging about 100,000 hits per month but this month, it's more. In addition, many of my students… Continue
