K. Sean Buvala Magic Johnson Teaches Storytelling Techniques.

Sometimes there are surprise moments when some rather public storytelling skills are demonstrated very well. It is common to see public figures fail at storytelling. However, at the Michael Jackson Memorial service, entrepreneur and former professional basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson demonstrated a command of and elegance to his story. Although many speakers spoke at "MJ's" funeral, Magic's few moments stand out. Here are 4 things that anyone who wants to use storytelling can learnContinue

Virginia Cano Deconstructing the story: different techniques for connecting with your story.

I attended on Saturday at workshop at the Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh. The workshop was called "Connecting with stories". It was an interesting workshop conducted with Sarah Perceval. Throughout the workshop we were presented with different ways of connecting with the story which we had chosen to tell. I have often been puzzled by the constant tugg of war between learning by heart every minte detail of the story or the opposite approach, which is to determine the basics of the story and th… Continue

Graduates, Tell Your Story By: Storyteller Joe Paris Author’s note: This article expands on the usual meaning of "Storytelling" and moves that term out into the mainstream of life, as it should be. As graduates everywhere take their first steps out into their brave new worlds this Spring and Summer, I am reminded of what my Grandma Lillian always said: "Telling your story in the world is very important, and to tell your story most effectively, you must first ask the right questions , and that… Continue

Steve Evans BULLET-PROOF MCDONALDS

My Professional Storyteller friend LaRon recently shared with me an event that happened in his life. "I performed earlier this week at a school in Detroit," he said. "During lunch, I went with one of the teachers to a McDonald's 'restaurant' not too far from the school. I never eat McDonald's food, so I was just along for the ride and the conversation, but she does, and she ordered her lunch through the bulletproof safety glass that seals off the staff from the customers." He then exclaimed: "Bu… Continue

Carolyn Stearns A Mid Winter Rambling

A Mid Winter Rambling; Carolyn Stearns Storyteller Ice, it was the main event here on Storybook Farm through much of January and into February and then it finally melted. So now it is not underfoot but only in the buckets and water barrels the animals drink from. I carry a splitting maul on my morning rounds using its heavy sharp edge to crack through and break the ice. Often and usually on the coldest days the water splashes back at me taking a direct hit on my face! I hate that, more than any… Continue

The Coyote is a prominent recurring anthropomorphic character in the folklore of many Native American tribes, particularly in the Southwest.
