School Visits & Swine Flu, Wednesday, April 29, 2009 - Dianne de Las Casas

Friends: I have been traveling like crazy lately. In one week, I have seen students in California, Louisiana, and Connecticut. With the World Health Organization raising the flu pandemic alert level to 5 (out of 6), it is important for all of us to take an extra measure of precaution when traveling and working in schools. * Constant Hand-washing - During any flu season, hand-washing is a must. Update on Dianne de Las Casas' Recovery; Monday, December 15, 2008

Friends: It's been a week since my hysterectomy. I am happy to say the surgery was successful. I am home, in the recovery process. It hasn't been easy. The first few days were kind of foggy as I relied heavily on medication to get me through the pain. I get around okay but my body is out of whack - my systems don't function as they should. I am off the pain medication so I am much more coherent. I have good days and bad days, just as my doctor promised. I can't wait to get back to "normal." Wh… Continue

Help a Fellow Teller - Linda Goss' House Destroyed by Fire; November 15, 2008

From Jane Crouse, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, National Storytelling Network Dear Friends, On Sunday, November 9th, Philadelphia storyteller Linda Goss and her family experienced a house fire. The oil heater exploded and caught fire in the basement and destroyed their home and possessions. A detailed assessment of the cause and amount of damage has not been determined. Hurricane Gustav Recovery - 9-7-08 - Dianne de Las Casas

Friends: Today was our first full day at home since we evacuated from Gustav on August 30. The first good news I heard was that sewerage services in Jefferson Parish Westbank were restored. I was able to spend much of the day cleaning (you need water to clean!) - scrubbing down the refrigerator and freezer (we lost all of our food) as well as cleaning the rest of the kitchen - the microwave, the stove, and organizing the pantry.
