It is the Day After. The day after we found out our 19 year old daughter tested positive for swine flu. Life is so far from “normal.”
At 10:00 a.m. this morning, I donned my blue surgical mask from the doctor’s office and checked on Soleil. She was snuggled under…

I have been traveling like crazy lately. In one week, I have seen students in California, Louisiana, and Connecticut. With the World Health Organization raising the flu pandemic alert level to 5 (out of 6), it is important for all of us to take an extra measure of precaution when traveling and working in schools.
* Constant Hand-washing - During any flu season, hand-washing is a must. Use soap and water as hot as you can stand it. The Mayo Clinic recommends that children wash their ha…

Over the past 27 years, I have presented workshops annually at the New England Storytelling Conference, rotating 8 different ones. Springboards has become a favorite and I have expa…

It's been a week since my hysterectomy. I am happy to say the surgery was successful. I am home, in the recovery process. It hasn't been easy. The first few days were kind of foggy as I relied heavily on medication to get me through the pain. I get around okay but my body is out of whack - my systems don't function as they should. I am off the pain medication so I am much more coherent. I have good days and bad days, just as my doctor promised. I can't wait to get back to "normal."

Dear Friends,
On Sunday, November 9th, Philadelphia storyteller Linda Goss and her family experienced a house fire. The oil heater exploded and caught fire in the basement and destroyed their home and possessions. A detailed assessment of the cause and amount of damage has not been determined. It has been determined that the basement received the majority damaged. The first floor is damaged, and all windows and doo…

Today was our first full day at home since we evacuated from Gustav on August 30. The first good news I heard was that sewerage services in Jefferson Parish Westbank were restored. I was able to spend much of the day cleaning (you need water to clean!) - scrubbing down the refrigerator and freezer (we lost all of our food) as well as cleaning the rest of the kitchen - the microwave, the stove, and organizing the pantry. Here is a picture of our fridge now. It looks brand spanking new a…
