Many times however, this telling is not done by storytellers! What follows is a bit of an experiment! I've been toying with the idea of recording some short little local fairy stories, on the sites where they happened. This is the first attempt, using a little story from North River, Conception Bay, and told on an old, overgrown and little used path that leads down to North River itself.

I've been experimenting a bit with digital storytelling, with the thought it might be one way to help community groups tell their stories. I've taken a story from my book "The Golden Leg" and shortened it, and matched it with historic images from Newfoundland.

Storytelling continues in Newfoundland and Labrador! This summer was no exception, with lots of events and activities.
Kelly Russell was busy all summer with the "Time in Pigeon Inlet" project in Bay Roberts, which was a truly immersive event, with enactments of Ted Russell's works and story telling, songs, Newfoundland dance, and traditional Newfoundland food. It was immensely popular. More information at
