Share a Story - Change the World

The 250 Challenge for All Members of Professional Storyteller - March 21, 2008

Since I began this site about 2 months ago, it has really grown! Major contributors to the site's growth include Rachel Hedman, Buck Creacy, Sean Buvala, Tim Ereneta, and Tom Taylor. They have been the "backbone" of the site, really contributing and helping Professional Storyteller grow. We're already at 175 as of this date! Thank you so much, my friends. I <3 U!

I would love to see it grow even more ,so I took Buck up on his suggestion to make our goal 250 tellers by April 1, 2008. That's no April Fool's joke!

Please invite tellers from your guild, and tellers you meet at conferences, retreats, festivals, and get-togethers. Invite your online teller friends at places like MySpace and FaceBook. Invite tellers from your personal address book.

Here are the benefits of joining Professional Storyteller:

1. It's cool.
2. It's free.
3. You make new friends and connect with storytellers around the world.
4. You can upload photos, audios, videos, and other files.
5. You can join a group and get help in the area(s) you need. There is Storytelling in Education, Marketing, Technology, and so many others.
6. You can create your own forum or group.
7. You can create your own blog.
8. You can customize the features of your page, including layout and background.
9. You can make other people feel good by sending them love through "comments."
10. You can show everyone what a "techie" you are because you belong to the Net's coolest social networking site!

So, what do I get out of this? Absolutely nothing. I mean no monetary compensation. I do get lots out of it. I get to see my fellow storytellers reach out to each other and lift each other up. It's fun to see the storytelling community up close and personal like this. And through technology, no less!

So please reach out and help us make our 250 member goal by April 1, 2008!

We can do it!

P.S. BTW, Rachel, you win the previous contest. Send me a message with your address so that I can send you the book! :) Dianne

There are many potential uses and activities that can be achieved on the website. This is like oan ongoing converestion and thus far it is all positive and helpful. We need to look at what we can do and not what we can't do. Therea re always solutions; we just must look harder at times.

As of 6:55 am this morning on March 25, 2008, we have 195 members and growing. I sent out an invitation to about 400 storytellers in my personal address book. Looking forward to seeing what happens...

I just invited about 400 storytellers from my personal address book. Let's see what happens!

There are 12 states listed because those are the only states where someone has taken the time to actually list an event. Wer're the most used calendar for storytelling on the web and many promoters don't use us. Events can be listed out for several years, just gotta get producers to start thinking about real promotion. If there were listings from other states, we'd have 50, LoL.

First off I love your site, and i need to send you $ for a listing. But as far as a calander, I just went to the site. There are 12 states listed. It would be wonderful to have a 1 or 2 year calander of festivals, conventions and events throught out the USA. One problem we have here on the East Coast is happening in a couple weeks. 3 of the biggest events are all happening on the same weekend. (VASA, Lanes and Leigh Valley) It would be great to have a place to look at (maybe showing last year, this year and anything planned for next year.) If I'm traveling, I'd plan around events if I saw them. Maybe it's not possible to graphically have a monthly calander just listing event, place and link, but I would find it useful.

Rivka, is a national calendar. I am not understanding what your need is? How would a national calendar look different. Folks generally use the Internet to say, "what's in my back yard" or the backyard I am going to be in.

Dianne, what is the advantage of this Ning site, then? Why is uploading a video here a benefit for a working teller, for example?

Sean, the many features of Professional Storyteller are benefits for storytellers. According to, a "benefit" is "something that is advantageous or good; an advantage." It is advantageous for storytellers to be able to do the things that this Ning group offers such as connecting with storytellers around the world, uploading photos, audios, videos, and other files, creating their own forum or group, and creating their own blog. I believe that the features of Professional Storyteller can be very beneficial to storytellers depending, of course, on the teller's use of the site. Buck Creacy, Tom Taylor and Rachel Hedman are great examples of tellers who have really used Professional Storyteller to their advantage.

Is there anyway to put a calender up on this site. It would be neat to see a place were storytelling events could be listed nationally by the day. This could include calls for tellers and workshop presenters. Sean does a nice job listing by state, but I haven't been able to find a national calender which runs for more then the current month anywhere. If you know of such a listing, please let me know. And Sean if you do it, or if you could, please let me know.

Dianne, you listed only features. What are the benefits of this Ning group? Okay, there is the one about joining groups. Is that it?
