I survived, I thrived, I have returned home.
What an incredible festival! For those of you who have not heard of it, it is one of the biggest (or the biggest?) festival in Norway. Featuring 4 international performers this year : Abbi Patrix, Pelle Olson, Sarah Benincasa and my good self, as well as several Norwegian Storytellers Anne Kleive and Jan Kurt Wolner Clauseen, and the phenomenal Knut Reiersrud on guitar. Directing this melee of talent was Ragnhild Morch, storyteller, performer, creator, director and finalist in the Nordic Story Slam.
It was a feast for the senses from Abbi's Patrix's The Companion to the Story Slam to the closing concert featuring the gangster Polka band. The theatre was teeming with local storytellers and a good local audience interested in the obviously growing art of storytelling in Norway. The festival ended with everyone on their feet dancing wildly, every performer on stage and cheerful abandon to be had everywhere!!!
Well organised and excellently executed Fortellerfestivalen delighted me from beginning to end. I highly recommend getting along to the festival some year and having a look. My thanks to the organisers (which came from at least 3 or 4 separate organisations working together!) and all the volunteers for their incredible hard work.
I left a litter of Irish myths in my wake to whet their appetite for future tellers.
