Living away from home, it's not often that I get to do storytelling to Caribbean people, let alone fellow Jamaicans. This weekend the Jamaicans living in N. Ireland will be celebrating Jamaica's National Heroes Day, and I get to do a range of ballads - historical, humourous, and contemplative, and some folk songs too. I am so excited! I expect they'll get all the jokes, as well as all the nuances that sometimes get lost in translation. I realise that there will be people from N.Ireland there as well as people from other Caribbean countries, so I'll still need to do some explaining which I'm sure the children present will appreciate too, but I'm still looking forward to it. Almost as much as my son looks forward to his birhtday!
