There's a need for social networking among the storytelling family beyond here. My own state of Michigan has seen paid opportunities for storytelling, its storytelling groups, & even our state's population decline. While a Group could easily be started here (international groups are very active here), not everyone loving storytelling in Michigan feels comfortable on a network aimed at the "Professional Storyteller" even though this network welcomes beginners to storytelling. For that reason I followed Dianne de Las Casas's lead & started a Ning group called Michigan Storytelling. We had almost reached our 50th member when Ning elected to offer only paid networks.
I knew that wasn't an option for our little group. If you want to know my reasoning, go to http://michiganstorytelling.socialgo.com/magazine.html
& read "TANSTAAFL..." & at the same time see the baby steps starting our social networking via Social Go. While you're there you might click the NEWS tab, for miscellaneous storytelling news. I found there an interesting article about Dianne & her storytelling in the Louisiana parish of Iberia - http://www.iberianet.com/articles/2010/10/24/news/doc4cc3b0b81eaef6...
It's easy to look at the bad news I listed in my second sentence & end there, but I'm hoping for better news to develop because of http://michiganstorytelling.socialgo.com
