I am excited to be telling several times this summer stories of American Patriots. There seems to be a lot of need for stories that celebrate America; that teach and encourage public service, good deeds and perserverance. Our country has a wonderful history of people who though not perfect, helped build a nation that is strong and true and is still regardless of the current press evaluation - the leader of the free world and the hope of all the others.
I am telling about Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Glenn. Planning to add Andrew Jackson, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett and Abe Lincoln to my programs as the year goes on.
For Ben Franklin, I include his establishment of a lending library which is great since I am a librarian and lead on up to he was 70 when he was on the committee to write the Declaration of Independence...Seniors do serious stuff. Retirement? are you kidding, etc. Ben Franklin was an amazing American and there are so many things to tell he can easily be a 15 minute program or an hour one and be lots of fun for all ages. I encourage you to celebrate Ben wherever you are - his story belongs to all of us!
I wonder if there are other storytellers out there who focus on GOOD DEEDS AND INSPIRATIONAL STORIES.
If so please post back some themes and people or events that you celebrate.
