WORDPLAY: Games That Teach Storytelling--Game #10

NAME: ROLL PLAY
LEARNING GOAL: IMPROVING WORD SELECTION
GAME OBJECTIVE: COMPLETE A STORY WITH A LIMITED # OF WORDS
# OF PARTICIPANTS: 6-25
FORMATION: SEATED CIRCLE
PROPS: ONE DIE (the larger the better)
LEADER'S ROLE: START THE STORY & HELP TELLERS REMEMBER THEIR ASSIGNED #

DESCRIPTION: Before the game, each teller, including the leader, rolls the die and is assigned that #. Many people will have the same # and that's fine. The # assigned corresponds to the # of words a teller must use. The leader begins an impromptu story, but can only use his or her assigned # of words. The next teller goes with their assigned # and the story begins to grow and move around the circle. The group should be prepared to go around several times to tell a completed story.

EXAMPLE: Everyone has an assigned #. The Leader rolled a four.
(4)-Leader: Most days Jack saw...
(2)-Teller One: ...a large...
(6)-Teller Two: ...bear. It was tall and smelled
(1)-Teller Three: ...like
(3)-Teller Four: ...a nest of...

One of the joys of this game is that it makes the teller think about using the best possible word they can use. It is a skill all of us tellers need. Lastly, play this game, improve your skills, have fun and kindly remember contents herein are copyright A. Burcher
